At the Rink: Blues at Avalanche

DENVER -- Andrew Bodnarchuk will start on the Colorado Avalanche's top defense pairing with Francois Beauchemin when they face the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday at Pepsi Center (10 p.m. ET; FS-MW, ALT).

Bodnarchuk was claimed off waivers Tuesday from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Bodnarchuk is replacing Erik Johnson, who is expected to miss between five and 12 days with a lower-body injury he sustained Monday against the Los Angeles Kings.

"We'll see how it goes," Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said. "Playing with Beauchemin is going to help him a lot. He's going to talk to him and make him comfortable. We'll go from there and we'll see. I have no expectations. I just want him to play hard for us. We're all curious to see what he's going to bring to our team. It's for depth and I think he's going to help us."

At the Rink: Devils at Canadiens

MONTREAL -- A lower-body injury will keep New Jersey Devils defenseman David Schlemko out of the lineup against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre on Wednesday.

Coach John Hynes ruled Schlemko out after the Devils' optional morning skate.

"Not too concerned with him," Hynes said. "He's not going to go [Wednesday] but it's just a situation where it's a precautionary thing for him."

Forward Mike Cammalleri, New Jersey's leading scorer, did not make the trip to Montreal and will miss his third straight game because of an upper-body injury.

DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Jan. 6

Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we'll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.

Henrik Sedin, C, Vancouver Canucks

DraftKings price: $5,000

Henrik Sedin remains a consistent fantasy producer in his 15th NHL season but still carries a bargain price tag in DraftKings. All the analytics on the first-line center illustrate that he should be a good value pick when the Vancouver Canucks host the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday. Sedin has 12 assists and 17 shots on goal in 14 games against Carolina, and has 17 points (four goals, 13 assists) and 23 SOG through 18 home games this season.

At the Rink: Penguins at Blackhawks

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks are looking to sweep a home-and-home set against the Pittsburgh Penguins at United Center on Wednesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, TVA Sports).

Neither team held a morning skate, so the starting goalies haven't been confirmed.

Following Chicago's 3-2 overtime win at Consol Energy Center on Tuesday, Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville didn't rule out the idea of coming back with goalie Corey Crawford, who made 34 saves.

"We'll see," Quenneville told the Blackhawks website. "We'll consider all avenues."

Marc-Andre Fleury, who made 27 saves Tuesday, has started the past two games in net for Pittsburgh after sitting out eight games with a concussion.

Weekes' pluses, minuses for Penguins, Blackhawks

Each Wednesday throughout the regular season, Kevin Weekes will be offering his pluses and minuses for the teams competing in the NBCSN Wednesday Night Rivalry game in his Weekes on the Web blog. Weekes also will assist fans with three must-watch elements of the game.

If the game Wednesday between the Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins is anything like what we saw Tuesday in the first of their home-and-home, NHL fans are in for a treat.

Chicago took a 2-0 lead in the first period, but Pittsburgh came back with two in the third before a perfect shot by Artemi Panarin won it in overtime for the Blackhawks, 3-2.

The best players showed up for each team, and so did the goaltending. The intensity made it like a Stanley Cup Playoff game, and I expect more of the same when the Penguins (19-15-5) visit the Blackhawks (24-13-4) at United Center on Wednesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN).

Here's my breakdown of the game:

Rosen's mailbag - Jan. 6, 2016

Here is the Jan. 6 edition of Dan Rosen's weekly mailbag, which will run every Wednesday in the Over the Boards blog during the 2015-16 NHL season. If you have a question, tweet it to @drosennhl and use #OvertheBoards.

Let's get to it:

What do you think drove Jonathan Drouin away from the Tampa Bay Lightning? Lack of opportunity? -- @trevorknapp16

At this point, what drove him away from Tampa was the fact that he has been in and out of the lineup because of injuries and he still needs time to develop. That's why he's in Syracuse of the American Hockey League. It's the best developmental league in the world.

I wrote about the whole situation here.

Situation Room Initiated Challenge: MIN @ CBJ - 19:44 of the Third Period

At 19:44 of the third period in the Wild/Blue Jackets game, the Situation Room initiated a review under the terms of a Coach’s Challenge to examine whether a Columbus player interfered with Minnesota goaltender Devan Dubnyk before the puck crossed the goal line.

After reviewing all available replays and consulting with NHL Hockey Operations staff, the Referee confirmed no goaltender interference infractions occurred before the puck crossed the goal line.

Therefore the original call stands – good goal Columbus Blue Jackets.

Coach's Challenge: DAL @ NYR - 13:06 of the Third Period

At 13:06 of the third period in the Stars/Rangers game, New York requested a Coach’s Challenge to review whether Dallas was off-side prior to Valeri Nichushkin's goal.

After reviewing all available replays and consulting with NHL Hockey Operations staff, the Linesman determined that Stars forward Jason Spezza was off-side prior to the goal. According to Rule 78.7, “The standard for overturning the call in the event of a ‘GOAL’ call on the ice is that the Linesman, after reviewing any and all available replays and consulting with the Toronto Video Room, determines that one or more Players on the attacking team preceded the puck into the attacking zone prior to the goal being scored and that, as a result, the play should have been stopped for an “Off-side” infraction; where this standard is met, the goal will be disallowed.”

Therefore the original call is overturned – no goal Dallas Stars.

The clock is re-set to show 6:58 (13:02 elapsed time), when the off-side infraction occurred.

Since the Coach’s Challenge resulted in the original call being overturned, the New York Rangers retain their time-out.

Video Review: WPG @ NSH - 8:42 of the Second Period

At 8:42 of the second period in the Jets/Predators game, video review supported the referee's call on the ice that Drew Stafford's stick was at or below the level of the crossbar when he deflected the puck into the Nashville net. According to Rule 38.4 (vi) "The determining factor is where the puck makes contact with the stick in relation to the crossbar. If the puck makes contact with the portion of the stick that is at or below the level of the crossbar and enters the goal, this goal shall be allowed". Good goal Winnipeg.
