On July 3, Utah signed veteran defenseman Andrew Peeke to a one-year contract. Peeke has seven NHL seasons of experience and is fresh off a strong year with the Boston Bruins. Learn more about the new blueliner below!
The Basics
Peeke is from Parkland, Florida; however, he started his junior hockey career in Connecticut with the Selects Academy before he graduated high school in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin.
He’s the son of Mary Ruth and Cliff, and the younger brother of Trevor. This summer, Peeke married his wife, Ryen. The couple has a dachshund, Franklin.
Path to the Pros
During the 2015-16 season, Peeke played for the Green Bay Gamblers in the USHL. Before he made the jump to college hockey the following year, Peeke was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round of the 2016 draft (34th overall).
For three seasons, starting with the 2016-17 campaign, Peeke played for the University of Notre Dame. During his final year, he served as the team’s captain. He was named to the All-Big Ten Academic team during the 2017-18 and the 2018-19 seasons. Over his final two seasons, Peeke and Notre Dame won the Big Ten Tournament championship. Peek was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team in his junior season, and won Notre Dame’s William Donald Nyrop Defensive Player of the Year that same year.
Following his junior season, Peeke signed his three-year, entry-level contract with the Blue Jackets. Through his three seasons of college hockey, Peeke played 119 regular season games, scored 12 goals, and added 40 assists for 52 points.
Professional Experience
The 2019-20 season was Peeke’s first pro season, and he split his time between the Cleveland Monsters (AHL) and the Blue Jackets. After starting the season with Cleveland, Peeke made his NHL debut on Dec. 5, 2019, against the New York Rangers. Later that season, he scored his first NHL goal on Feb. 16, 2020, against the New Jersey Devils.
During his second season, Peeke split his time between the AHL and NHL; however, that would be his last season in the AHL.
From the 2021-22 season to the 2023-24 campaign, Peeke played for Columbus. In early March 2024, Peeke was traded to the Boston Bruins where he spent the next two seasons. This summer, as a free agent, Peeke signed with the Mammoth.
Over seven years, Peeke has played 386 games, scored 16 goals, and added 59 assists for 75 points. He has four career shorthanded points, including one shorthanded goal. He’s averaged 19:23 time on ice over his NHL career. In addition, he’s played in two Stanley Cup Playoffs for a total of 12 career postseason games.
International Experience
Peeke has represented his home country, the United States, at three major tournaments throughout his career. In 2018 he won bronze at the IIHF World Junior Championship. In 2025, alongside Utah’s Clayton Keller and Logan Cooley, he won gold at the IIHF Men’s World Championship. Peeke also participated in the 2022 Men’s World Championship as well.
In addition to his IIHF tournament experience, Peeke participated in two other international tournaments. At the 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament, Peeke played with Utah forward Kailer Yamamoto. At the 2015 World Junior-A Challenge, Peeke played alongside Mammoth defenseman John Marino.
