Celebrating with his mom and family was fitting for Belchetz. Throughout his career, the sacrifices his family has made helped him reach the NHL Draft.
“They’re everything,” Belchetz shared. “They’re my support system no matter if I’m lifting a championship over my head or I just had the worst hockey game in my life. They’re the first call that I make and they’re with me no matter what.
“…they’re sacrificing everything,” Belchetz continued. “Waking up early, missing events, I know a lot of families around me who love to go on vacation all the time, my family never did that. So, the sacrifices that they did for me, I can’t appreciate it enough.”
Although there was plenty to celebrate this summer after he was drafted 17th overall, Belchetz knows there’s plenty of hard work ahead.
“The work’s not over just because you get drafted,” Belchetz explained. “It’s an awesome experience, I haven’t had a smile off my face yet, but the work just starts now. The hardest part is cracking the NHL lineup and that’s my goal. I want to be in the NHL, and I don’t want to just play and survive. I want to dominate and be a certified NHLer for a lot of years and the work starts now, and I have to keep going.”
