McCabe is scheduled to have surgery and the estimated recovery time is 4-6 months. He had thumb surgery Feb. 7.

BUFFALO -- Alex Ovechkin scored his NHL-leading 35th goal to help the Washington Capitals to a 3-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center on Monday.

Ovechkin gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead at 1:18 of the second period when he deflected a shot by Christian Djoos. It's the 10th time in 14 NHL seasons he's scored at least 35 goals.

At 1:18 of the second period in the Capitals/Sabres game, video review supported the Referee's call on the ice that Alex Ovechkin's stick was at or below the height of the crossbar when he tipped the puck into the Buffalo net. According to Rule 38.4 (vi) "The determining factor is where the puck makes contact with the stick in relation to the crossbar. If the puck makes contact with the portion of the stick that is at or below the level of the crossbar and enters the goal, this goal shall be allowed". Good goal Washington.

BUFFALO -- Anze Kopitar and rookie Michael Amadio each scored twice for the Los Angeles Kings in a 4-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center on Saturday, their first win in Buffalo since Feb. 21, 2003.

Jonathan Quick made 33 saves for the Kings (31-22-5), who ended a three-game losing streak and trail the Anaheim Ducks by two points for third place in the Pacific Division.
