Q: Can I go on the ice with my child?
A: Instruction will be provided by both the New York Rangers Hockey Development team and coaches from the area rink. Due to the large number of children and staff on the ice, we will not be permitting parents to be on the ice during the lesson. We encourage and invite all parents to take photos, video and enjoy the experience from the comfort of the viewing areas around the rink.
Q: Why do the New York Rangers not offer the Try Hockey For Free Program at other rinks?
A: The Try Hockey For Free Program is run with community rink partners that currently hold a premier partnership with the New York Rangers. We are consistently evaluating the partnerships across the tri-state area from year to year in order ensure players from the area have an equal opportunity to attend an event.
Q: Can I show up with my child and register on the day of the event?
A: We encourage all participating players to pre-register for their desired rink and session.
Q: Can my child still attend if the pre-registration form tells me the lesson is full?
A: Participants who are not pre-registered can still show up the day of the event to try and register. If space is still available 20min prior to the start of the session staff will begin registering players from the waitlist.
Q: How much playing experience should my child have before participating?
A: Players looking to register for the try hockey for free program should not have any previous on-ice hockey experience.
Q: Do I need to bring equipment?
A: No, we will provide your child with loaner equipment to use during their session. We just ask that you dress them warmly.
