It was a painstaking 14 hours that covered 6,500 miles in the air.

So what is there to do on such a long flight?

Tweet from @lakingsinsider: 14-hour flight. How to spend the time? Several guys picked up a Nintendo Switch. "We'll all be Mario Karting for a bit," Doughty said.

This is why children dream of becoming professional athletes.

Anze Kopitar Determined to Bounce Back This Season

LA Kings captain resolute on reflection, improvement after least-productive full campaign of NHL career

by Lisa Dillman @reallisa / NHL.com Staff Writer

An uneasy fall turned into an unsettled winter, a spring without the Stanley Cup Playoffs and a management and coaching change for the LA Kings.

Their captain, center Anze Kopitar, had never experienced such a prolonged personal struggle on the ice, at any age. It stung when the Kings missed the playoffs for the second time in the past three seasons.

"I had periods, at a time, where it didn't go [right]," said Kopitar, who turned 30 on Aug. 24. "It's not even close to having a full season like that. It's different and you get to know yourself and you see what you've got to do. I definitely learned from it.

"Once you go in the wrong direction, it's really tough to stop it first and then get going again. I don't think my start was all that poor. It wasn't great but it wasn't a complete disaster. After a while the pucks weren't going where I wanted them to go, and you start thinking about it."

by LA Kings @LAKings / LAKings.com

The LA Kings will hold open goaltending tryouts on September 27 at the Toyota Sports Center as the club seeks qualified amateur goaltending candidates to provide emergency goaltending duties at all of its 2017-18 home games at STAPLES Center.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old and have played a high level of amateur hockey, but must not have signed a contract to play in a professional league.

"The NHL requires each home team to have an emergency goalie in the stands for every game and we thought this would be a good opportunity to see who in our area is best qualified for the job," said Kings President Luc Robitaille. "It will be interesting, that is for sure."

Sign up now, as only 30 goaltenders will be selected to tryout for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! You must RSVP. Walkup registrations will not be accepted.
