AITCHESON’S FOUR-GOAL WEEK

Kashawn Aitcheson played the hero for the Barrie Colts last week, recording back-to-back overtime winners as part of a four-goal week.

The 17^th-overall pick buried the OT winner 30 seconds into the extra frame to secure a 5-4 victory for the Colts against the Brantford Bulldogs on Wednesday. He came up big again the next night, going hard to the net and scoring a greasy goal in a 3-2 OT win over the Sarnia Sting on Thursday.

Aitcheson continued his hot hand with a two-goal game in a 4-2 win over the Erie Otters on Friday, lighting the lamp both times on the power play. The 19-year-old defenseman has five goals in his last four games, which has boosted him to the top of the Colts leaderboard with 11 goals on the season, which leads all defensemen in the OHL.

VEILLEUX NETS FIRST NCAA GOAL

Xavier Veilleux scored his first NCAA goal for Cornell on Saturday in a 3-1 win against UMass.

The 19-year-old defenseman potted a power-play goal in his second colligate game, unleashing a one-timer from the high slot midway through the third period.

The Islanders’ 2024 sixth-round pick (179^th overall) made the jump to NCAA hockey after two seasons for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. He’s coming off a season where he recorded 41 points (8G, 33A) in 61 games and a +24 rating. Veilleux won the Clark Cup with the Lumberjacks, where he contributed eight points (3G, 5A) in 14 postseason games.

FINLEY’S TWO GOAL GAME

Quinn Finley powered Wisconsin with two goals in a 4-0 win over Minnesota on Saturday.

The Islanders’ 2022 third-round pick (78^th overall) netted his fourth of the season, collecting the puck in the slot and whipping it past the Minnesota goaltender to open the scoring, which held as the game-winner. His second of the night came on the power play where he ripped a snipe from the right circle to take a 2-0 lead in the eventual 4-0 win.

It marked Finley’s sixth multi-goal game of his colligate career. The junior is riding a five-game point streak with seven points (4G, 3A) over that span.
