At the Rink: Avalanche at Panthers

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie will return from a three-game suspension against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday at BB&T Center (7:30 p.m. ET; ALT, FS-F).

Barrie was suspended for a hit against Anaheim Ducks defenseman Simon Despres in an Oct. 16 game. Colorado lost two of the three.

"It was frustrating. Three games doesn't seem like much, but when you're sitting out it seems like a long time," Barrie told the Avalanche website after practice Monday. "It's kind of unfortunate that the stretch of games we had seemed to be spaced out a bit. It was definitely a long wait for me, so I'm excited to get back in there."

Center Anze Kopitar scored in overtime to give the Kings a 2-1 victory against the Minnesota Wild and end their three-game losing streak.

Coach Darryl Sutter said he has been impressed with defenseman Brayden McNabb

"He's played strong. We need him to be consistent," Sutter told LA Kings Insider. "Can't have any games off. Can't be in a situation where we're saying, 'Well, he had a drop because he's a young guy.' We need consistency. We're trying to win hockey games."

At the Rink: Wild at Kings

The Los Angeles Kings host the Minnesota Wild on Friday and are looking for their first win of the season.

The Kings (0-3-0) have lost each of their three games at home and have been outscored 12-2. They are 0-for-13 on the power play.

"I think we need more time with the puck," Kings coach Darryl Sutter told LAKingsInsider.com on Friday. "I think we’ve spent a lot of time going 200 feet up and down the ice instead of battling for the puck and not thinking about the fancy play. Two games ago I think we had good looks, and this last game we didn't."

It will be a tough test against the undefeated Wild (3-0-0).

At the Rink: Sabres at Panthers

Buffalo Sabres captain Brian Gionta will make his season debut Thursday against the Florida Panthers at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla., according to the Buffalo News.

Gionta missed the first three games of the season because of a lower-body injury. He reportedly will play right wing on a line with center Jack Eichel and left wing Evander Kane.

"You’ve got two talented guys with speed. It could be a great setup," Gionta said, according to the Buffalo News. "You want to find him [Kane] open. He's a shooter. He's going to take shots. Obviously Eichel, great vision, great speed, all-around game. For myself it's just trying to get to the net for those guys, create some things off the forecheck, help them out in that manner."

A forward will come out of the lineup but Sabres coach Dan Bylsma would not say who.
