ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Blues left wing Jaden Schwartz injured his left leg during practice Friday and went to the hospital for evaluation, coach Ken Hitchcock said.

Schwartz has been ruled out for the Blues game Saturday against the New York Islanders (8 p.m. ET; MSG+ 2, FS-MW).

"You know what, we're not going to know until [Saturday] morning," Hitchcock said about the severity of Schwartz's injury. "We’ll get a further update, but we sent him to the hospital just to get a further evaluation, then we'll give you an exact update on timeframe [Saturday]."

Schwartz, who had four assists in seven games, was taking part in a warmup drill. He shot a puck and reached to get the rebound when he lost an edge and crashed into the net where goalie Brian Elliott was practicing. Schwartz threw off his left glove and was in obvious pain.

"You know just, pretty innocent thing," Hitchcock said. "We'll see how serious it is [Saturday], but obviously he couldn’t finish practice so that’s the first alarm bell that goes off if you can’t finish the practice. So we’ll see in the morning and see if it’s serious or not, but, you know, I’ve been in it a long time and I’ve never seen that in my life in a warmup drill, a guy goes down."

Schwartz, who is coming off NHL career highs in goals (28), assists (35) and points (63), received attention immediately from teammates and trainers. He was favoring his left leg as he left the ice.

"Yeah, he shot the puck and then the puck bounced off," Elliott said. "He went to reach back for the rebound, kind of lost his edge and kind of came back into me and into the mesh of the net. So I don't really know. … I haven't seen him or talked to anybody about it, so I don't know the scope of it. Hopefully he's all right."

The Blues recalled forward Ty Rattie from Chicago of the American Hockey League and he will play against the Islanders. Rattie led the Wolves with four goals and seven points in three games.

The Blues are without center Paul Stastny, who has a broken right foot and will be re-evaluated in five weeks. He was injured Oct. 16 against the Vancouver Canucks.

The Blues are expected to get back injured defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk (lower body) and forward Robby Fabbri (concussion) on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Shattenkirk has missed four games and Fabbri has missed six straight.

"Neither Fabbri nor [Shattenkirk] will play [Saturday] so they're on schedule hopefully to play Tuesday," Hitchcock said. "That gives them four more skates with us, so we've got some people coming back here, and we'll see how serious [Schwartz's] is, and injuries are part of the game right now. We've got one game to play before we get some help on the way, so we've got to find a way to muster it up [Saturday] and then get to regroup here over the weekend."
