Flyers Recess

The Philadelphia Flyers and Wegmans are proud to present Flyers Recess, a free school assembly program aimed to get elementary children interested in the game of hockey. The program will kick-off with an interactive game-show-style assembly where students will have the opportunity to learn more about hockey and The Philadelphia Flyers. In addition to a school assembly, each school's PE teacher will receive equipment and a manual so that they can launch a street hockey curriculum in their PE classes.

School Benefits

  • Flyers staff members, former Flyers players, the Flyers Ice Team, and Gritty will visit your school to deliver your school's equipment and kick-off the program with an interactive assembly.
  • Your school will receive a complete set of equipment for a full PE class to include: two pop-up goals, 40 sticks, a case of balls, and 40 Flyers branded reversible pinnies.
  • PE teachers will be given a street hockey instructional video as well as a manual to help provide accurate instruction to their students.
  • Each school will receive contact information for a Flyers staff member who will be able to provide any additional information and answer any questions that might arise throughout the program.

Student Benefits

  • Students will a receive Flyers-themed school supply set including folders, pencils and more.
  • Participating students will also receive two (2) complimentary tickets to a Flyers home game.
  • Students will be sent information on how to register for the Flyers Rookie Kids Club and Flyers Learn to Play program.

School Requirements

  • Schools must have a gymnasium or cafeteria space to host an assembly
  • Schools must have ample space to play street hockey (i.e., gymnasium, cafeteria, parking lot, etc.)
  • Each school must commit to having the street hockey program as a week-long unit in their PE classes over two weeks.
  • Applicant must be a school administrator or faculty member.

The program features activities with Flyers personalities, donated ball hockey equipment and tickets for students to attend a Flyers game.
