This evening the New Jersey Devils added a new player into the mix, trading for veteran forward Tyler Toffoli from the Calgary Flames. Toffoli is coming off a career-year with 73 points and while you can praise him for his on-ice work, he's also quite the personality off of it as well.

Let's get to know the newest Devils in Three Things, presented by GEICO.

A Winner

Tyler Toffoli knows what it takes to become a winner. With his arrival, he joins Ondrej Palat as the only Devils under contract next season who have won Stanley Cups. The 31-year-old won the Cup as a rookie in 2014 with the L.A. Kings. In the process of winning the Cup, his 14 points (7g-7a) through the 2014 playoffs led all NHL rookie skaters and also set a rookie franchise record for Los Angeles in a single postseason.

Toffoli's most recent big championship win was just a few months ago when he captained Canada to a Gold Medal at the 2023 World Championship with 3 goals and 3 assists in 10 games. He also won gold at the 2015 World Championship in his first international appearance with Canada.

Tyler Toffoli | PRESS CONFERENCE

Not only is he a winner on the ice, but you'd be hard-pressed to find someone say a bad word about Toffoli, who has been a "locker room guy" on every team he has played with endearing himself not just to his teammates, but fanbases alike. With general manager Tom Fitzgerald wanting to build a strong culture in New Jersey, Toffoli fits that mark as a great addition both on and off the ice.

The Great Outdoors

Back in 2020 the L.A. Kings and Colorado Avalanche met in an outdoor Stadium Series game in Colorado Springs, Colorado and it became the Tyler Toffoli show.

Toffoli scored the opening goal in the first period of the game, followed by two goals in the final minute (1-ev, 1-en) to record the first ever hat trick in an outdoor game in NHL history.

Big Hitter

Turns out Toffoli isn't just good at hockey… he has a knack for baseball too. Wguke playing with the L.A. Kings, Toffoli took a visit with some of his teammates to Dodgers Stadium to throw out a ceremonial first pitch.

Toffoli seemed to use his time wisely, getting in some batting practice as well. And lo-and-behold, he's a natural at baseball too, hitting a homerun... after which he declared he was retiring from the game of baseball!
