Florida Panthers forward Lawson Crouse, the 11th pick of the 2015 NHL Draft, was returned to his junior team Monday.
Crouse, in a post on his verified Twitter feed, thanked the Panthers for the opportunity he got at training camp and expressed his excitement to be returning to the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound left wing had one assist in three preseason games.
The Edmonton Oilers assigned forward Leon Draisaitl, the third pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, to Bakersfield of the American Hockey League on Monday to finalize their 23-man NHL roster for the start of the 2015-16 season.
Draisaitl, who turns 20 on Oct. 27, had a goal and three assists in six preseason games, and was under consideration to begin the regular season in Edmonton with forward Jordan Eberle out 4-6 weeks because of a shoulder injury.
General manager Peter Chiarelli told the Oilers website he wants Draisaitl to work on his 200-foot game and said he will predominantly play center at Bakersfield.
Defenseman Mirco Mueller and forward Nikolay Goldobin, the San Jose Sharks' first-round picks in 2013 and 2014, respectively, were sent to the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League on Monday.
Mueller, the 18th pick of the 2013 draft, had one goal and three assists while averaging 16:57 of ice time per game in 39 games last season.
Goldobin, the 27th pick in the 2014 draft, had 11 goals and 10 assists in 38 games with HIFK in Finland, and three goals and two assists with Worcester of the AHL last season.
MacDonald, who signed a six-year contract with the Flyers on April 15, 2014, had two goals and 12 points in 58 games last season. He is owed $23.75 million on the remaining five years of the contract, according to war-on-ice.com.
The Flyers, who open the regular season Thursday at the Tampa Bay Lightning, brought eight defensemen on one-way contracts to training camp.
Roy, 32, was in camp on a professional tryout contract. He had 12 goals and 32 points in 72 games last season for the Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators, and was an intriguing possibility to make the Capitals with center Nicklas Backstrom missing the start of the season recovering from offseason hip surgery.
Peters, 29, went 3-6-1 with a 3.25 goals-against average and .881 save percentage in 12 games last season as the backup to Braden Holtby, but was pushed for the job by Philipp Grubauer, who wound up starting Game 2 of the Eastern Conference First Round against the New York Islanders when Holtby was ill.
Hamilton, 23, had one goal in 17 games for the Avalanche last season and two goals and two assists in five games for Lake Erie in the American Hockey League after being traded by the San Jose Sharks for defenseman Karl Stollery on March 2.
"He had an excellent camp and opened a lot of eyes ... but his body needs to get stronger," coach Dave Tippett said in comments tweeted by the Coyotes. "He understands that."
Strome, the third pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, won the OHL scoring title last season with 126 points (45 goals, 84 points) in 68 games. He had 10 goals and 22 points in 20 playoff games to lead Erie to the OHL Final, where it lost to Oshawa.
The Maple Leafs selected Nylander with the eighth pick of the 2014 NHL Draft. Kapanen, chosen 22nd by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2014, was acquired by Toronto in the package that sent forward Phil Kessel to Pittsburgh on July 1.
Datsyuk had ankle surgery June 26 and is projected to return in early November. He had 26 goals and 65 points in 63 games last season, and three goals and five points in seven games against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference First Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
