Hamilton, 23, had one goal in 17 games for the Avalanche last season and two goals and two assists in five games for Lake Erie in the American Hockey League after being traded by the San Jose Sharks for defenseman Karl Stollery on March 2.
Prior to the trade, Hamilton had nine goals and 21 assists in 52 games for Worcester in the AHL. He did not have a point in one game with San Jose.
Hamilton, the older brother of Flames defenseman Dougie Hamilton, was the Sharks' fifth-round pick (No. 129) at the 2010 draft. He will report to Stockton of the AHL.
