In their first NHL Draft since the franchise was established, Utah will select the No. 6 overall pick following the Draft Lottery results.

Earlier tonight at 4:48 P.M. MT, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly unveiled a placard signifying the franchise had received the No. 6 overall pick. Utah had the sixth highest odds of winning the lottery at 7.5%, following the San Jose Sharks (18.5%), Chicago Blackhawks (13.5%), Anaheim Ducks (11.5%), Columbus Blue Jackets (9.5%), and Montreal Canadiens (8.5%).

The NHL Draft Lottery determines the order of selection for the first 16 picks in the first round of the NHL Draft. Participants include teams that did not qualify for the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs or that have acquired the first-round drafting positions of those non-playoff teams.

Utah’s NHL team owns 34 total picks in the next three drafts, with 20 of those selections in the first three rounds. In the 2024 NHL Draft, Utah currently has 13 picks - the most of any draft team: one in the first round, three in the second round, three in the third round, and six in later rounds.

The 2024 NHL Scouting Combine, showcasing the top draft-eligible prospects, will be held June 2 through June 8 in Buffalo, N.Y. The 2024 NHL Draft will be held on June 28 and June 29 at the Sphere in Las Vegas, NV.
