In 2018-19, The Lightning hosted our third annual Pride Night in conjunction with the National Hockey League and You Can Play, dedicating the game at Amalie Arena to celebrate inclusion for everyone in the sport. Harrison Browne, the first openly transgendered athlete in professional sports, shared the story of the journey throughout the day which included the Morning Skate Show, LGBTQ+ on-ice clinic, and being the Bolts Social Captain during the game.
The Lightning had various promotions throughout the game to highlight the important initiative of inclusion. Lightning players taped their sticks with rainbow colored tape, with Defenseman and 2017-18 Norris Trophy winner Victor Hedman reading a PSA during the game as the team's You Can Play ambassador. Coaches, broadcasters and staff also wore rainbow ribbon and Hockey is for Everyone pins.
Proceeds from the in-game auction, 50/50 raffle, and Pride Night t-shirts benefited local nonprofits in the Tampa Bay LGBTQ+ Community.
