At the Tampa Bay Lightning, giving back is a core value that defines who we are. Under the leadership of Mr. Jeff Vinik, the Tampa Bay Lightning is proud to champion a culture of service, where every full-time employee volunteers a minimum of 40 hours each year with nonprofits throughout the Tampa Bay area.

Through our Lightning C.H.A.R.G.E. program (Contributing Hours Across our Region through our Generous Employees), our team has contributed more than 45,000 hours of volunteer service to over 200 charitable organizations in the past eight years. From mentoring youth and cleaning up our community to supporting local shelters and food banks, Lightning employees are passionate about making a meaningful difference in the community we call home.

Weekly Volunteering

Giving back is a year-round commitment for our organization. Every week, Lightning employees volunteer with local nonprofit organizations across Tampa Bay, supporting a wide range of causes including local animal shelters, food banks, and delivering meals to local neighbors in need. These weekly service opportunities allow our team to stay actively engaged with the community and make a consistent, meaningful impact.

Do-Good Days

Organization-Wide Volunteer Days

Each year the entire organization spends time out of the office and in the community on full-staff volunteer days. Over 200 Lightning employees participatein the 9/11 Day of Service meal packing event at Yuengling Center, as well as our end of season Strikes of Kindness Day powered by DEX Imaging. We also kick off the season with Lightning Community Kickoff Day, where our players spend timegiving back and creating lasting memories with organizations they’re passionate about.

Holiday Volunteering

Throughout the Holiday season, the Lightning host food, toy and supply drives pregame on Ford Thunder Alley to support designated local non-profits. Employees spend time volunteering with many of these same nonprofits to distribute food and toys, ensuring a memorable holiday season for those in need. Thanks to Mr. Vinik's generosity, all full-time employees are also provided with a monetary contribution to pay it forward and help a cause close to their heart during this time.
