Northwell Health Ice Center is expanding its partnership with Nassau County and the New York Islanders to introduce the Islanders Girls Hockey Academy. The program is a development/instructional league for girls 10U (10 and under) and is structured around the USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM)
The Islanders Girls Hockey Academy is offered at no cost and no prior hockey experience is required. The program, set to begin on October 23, 2017, provides an introduction to the game for girls in the local community looking to play the sport of hockey. The Islanders Girls Hockey Academy will teach fundamentals, skills, sportsmanship and emphasize how much fun hockey is for everyone.
The program will take place over a 17-week period and include a two-week introductory period, pre-season, 14-week regular season, all culminating in a post-season assessment. Girls will have their ice sessions from 4 - 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow, N.Y., the official practice facility of the New York Islanders.
The program is headed by Alexis Moed, Northwell Health Ice Center's Girls Hockey Director.
