BARZAL SKATING AT CENTER AND WING

Brayden Schenn and Mathew Barzal rotated with the center position in practice, as Head Coach Pete DeBoer wanted to see his versatility, as he’s observed his speed at center as an opposing coach.

“My initial reaction, watching Mat from the other benches, everybody’s looking for that type of speed in the middle of the ice,” DeBoer said “The fact that he’s played both and can play both is a great thing. That speed through the middle of the ice is really dangerous and the good teams all have that.”

HOLMSTROM AND PULOCK SKATE, CIZIKAS MISSES PRACTICE

Simon Holmstrom and Ryan Pulock attended practice after they missed Monday's session for maintenance, while Casey Cizikas (maintenance) missed his second straight practice, but is expected to skate on Wednesday, per DeBoer.

Ilya Sorokin, who took a rest day on Monday, practiced with the team.

DEANGELO UPDATE

Tony DeAngelo (upper-body) skated on his own and is still considered day-to-day. DeBoer said that he's likely to skate with the team on Wednesday.

OBSERVATIONS FROM DAY 2

DeBoer utilized a whiteboard often and had his forward lines distinct in the same color, similar to his first practice on Monday.

"I'm going a little old school for sure with the whiteboard and jerseys," DeBoer said. "I'm drinking from a fire hose right now trying to get up to speed. Just trying to get information to the guys without paralyzing them."

The Islanders still have another full practice day ahead of them before they take on Toronto on Thursday.

"The goal is to sharpen us, and we have time here to stalk about out system," Heineman said. "Tighten things up in our d-zone, stuff like that. It's good timing and good for us to get a reset."
