Koivula extends scoring streak as Sound Tigers split a pair of games

Otto Koivula extended his goal-scoring streak to three games and Sebastian Aho collected a trio of assists last week as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (14-8-3-1), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, split a two-game series within the division.

In fact, the Sound Tigers are in the midst of a season-long, 17-game stretch against Atlantic Division rivals. That streak continued on Wednesday when the Sound Tigers hosted the Hartford Wolf Pack at Webster Bank Arena and earned a 2-1 victory. Koivula and Chris Bourque, who scored the game-winner midway through the third period, each found the back of the net, while Aho dished out two assists and now ranks second on the team with 15 helpers. In net, Jeremy Smith (7-5-1) was stellar and backstopped the hard-fought effort with 25 saves on 26 shots.

Blade Jenkins has six-point week, Ilya Sorokin wins 10th straight game

JENKINS HAS SIX-POINT WEEK: 

Blade Jenkins recorded six points (3G, 3A) in three games last week for Saginaw Spirit. Jenkins recorded at least one goal in each game, extending his scoring streak to four games. 

The Islanders 2018 fifth-round pick (134th overall) had a season-high three points (1G, 2A) and was named the game's first star in Saginaw's 5-3 win over Erie on Saturday. 

Jenkins's six-point week catapulted him up to second on the Spirit's leaderboard. Jenkins has 28 points (11G, 17A) in 29 games this season.

Wahlstrom, Cockerill Named To US World Junior Camp

USA Hockey expected to announce 2019 WJC team on Dec. 23

Two Islanders prospects, Oliver Wahlstrom and Logan Cockerill, were named to 2019 U.S. National Junior Team Preliminary Roster, ahead of the 2019 World Junior Hockey Championships. 

Wahlstrom, the Islanders' 2018 first-round pick (11th overall) and Cockerill, the Islanders' 2017 seventh-round pick (201st overall), were two of the 29 players invited to Team USA's camp, which takes place Dec. 15-17 in Everett, WA.

The Bridgeport Report: Week 9

Ho-Sang led the Sound Tigers with five points last week as Bridgeport became the fourth AHL team to reach the 30-point mark this season

Josh Ho-Sang scored an overtime winner and added four assists last week as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (13-7-3-1), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, became just the fourth team to eclipse the 30-point mark this season. Fellow 2014 first-rounder Michael Dal Colle chipped in three points (one goal, two assists) in three games, while Otto Koivula had two goals.

WILDE SIGNS THREE-YEAR, ENTRY-LEVEL DEAL: 

Bode Wilde, the Islanders 2018 second-round pick (41st overall) inked a three-year, entry-level deal on Monday. Wilde, 18, has 22 points (5G, 17A) in 21 games during his first season with the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League. His 22 points are good for most among team defensemen while his 17 assists leads the Spirit.

The Bridgeport Report: Week 8

Sound Tigers earn three points last week and hang onto second place in Atlantic Division

NHL veteran Steve Bernier scored four times last week, including three goals on the power play, as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (12-6-2-1) earned a trio of points in a post-holiday tripleheader against the Hartford Wolf Pack and Springfield Thunderbirds. New York Islanders prospects Michael Dal Colle and Sebastian Aho also cashed in and helped the Sound Tigers hold onto second place in the Atlantic Division standings with 27 points - fourth in the AHL.

Sorokin named to KHL All-Star Game, Wilde and Durandeau have three-point weeks

SOROKIN SETS SHUTOUT RECORD, NAMED TO KHL ALL-STAR TEAM:

Ilya Sorokin set this season's KHL shutout streak, going 247:40 between goals allowed - the third-longest streak in KHL history.

Sorokin's shutout streak lasted just over four straight games, the most recent one coming in a 21-save, 2-0 win over HC Sochi on Wednesday. Sorokin allowed a goal in the first period of Saturday's 3-1 win over SKA St. Petersburg, his first goal against in November. In total, Sorokin has won six straight games and is 13-3-3 this season.

The Sound Tigers are currently tied for the second-most points in the AHL (24)

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (11-5-2-0), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, won a pair of defensive duels in Canada during a three-game road trip last week, and extended their unbeaten in regulation streak to a season-best eight games (7-0-1-0). Devon Toews (one goal, two assists) and Tanner Fritz (two goals, one assist) each recorded a team-high three points, helping the Sound Tigers improve to 7-1-1-0 this month

Sorokin named KHL goalie of the week after shutout streak reaches three games

SOROKIN NAMED KHL GOALIE OF THE WEEK:

Ilya Sorokin was named the KHL's goalie of the week on Monday, after he posted a pair of shutouts to extend his shutout streak to three consecutive games.

Sorokin made 21 saves in a 3-0 win over Torpedo last Tuesday (Nov. 13) and made 24 saves in a 5-0 win over Ak Bars on Thursday (Nov. 15). Sorokin's shutout streak currently stands at 180:30. Per the KHL, Sorokin is close to the current KHL regular season shutout record, 208:30, held by 22-year old Igor Shestyorkin.

Sorokin is 11-3-3 this season with a 1.29 GAA, a .934 SV% and four shutouts. Sorokin's 1.29 GAA ranks second in the KHL.

The Bridgeport Report: Week 6

The Sound Tigers win three games last week, extending winning streak to five games

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (9-5-1-0), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, scored 16 goals in a trio of games last week and collected all six of their possible points, extending their win streak to a season-high five games.

Chris Bourque and Otto Koivula each recorded two goals and three assists to pace the Sound Tigers' red-hot offense, while 2016 first-round pick Kieffer Bellows scored in each of the three games and now boasts a team-best four-game goal streak entering this week's action. Travis St. Denis (three goals, one assist) and Devon Toews (one goal, three assists) also came up big with four-point performances.
