Long Island native Kyle Palmieri scored twice in a 4:36 span of the third period and Long Island's Keith Kinkaid made 30 saves as the New Jersey Devils rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Islanders before a sellout crowd of 16,514 at Prudential Center.

The Devils, who before the game retired the jersey of Patrik Elias, improved to 7-19-2 in games they trailed after 40 minutes while the Isles fell to 2-2-2 this month in games they led in the second intermission.

Jordan Eberle scored for the second straight game; it was his 4th goal in the last eight games. Anthony Beauvillier and Mathew Barzal assisted on the goal as Barzal extended his club lead in both assists (49, to Josh Bailey's 47) and points (66, to John Tavares' 64).

Devils come back in third period to beat Isles

The New York Islanders winless streak extended to three games on Saturday, as the Islanders fell 2-1 to the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center. 

The Islanders led 1-0 going into the third period, but gave up a pair of goals to Kyle Palmieri to fall to 0-2-1 in their last three games.

Trade 2019 third-round pick to Edmonton

The New York Islanders have acquired defenseman Brandon Davidson from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2019 National Hockey League Draft.

Davidson, 26, has five points (three goals, two assists) in 36 games this season with the Montreal Canadiens and Oilers. Edmonton claimed Davidson off waivers from Montreal on Dec. 3.

The New York Islanders (65 points) picked up an important point on Thursday, but felt they left one on the table in a shootout loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. 

As frustrating as it was to leave one behind, there were some positives to take out of the game. The Islanders got a terrific effort out of their second line, with Mathew Barzal, Anthony Beauvillier and Jordan Eberle combining for six points (2G, 4A), never trailed in regulation and felt they controlled long stretches of play.

Bailey happy to stay with Islanders

In the midst of a career-year and sitting firmly within the NHL's top-20 scoring leaders, Josh Bailey's services would have likely been in high demand had he reached unrestricted free agency this summer. 

But Bailey's focus wasn't on testing the market, it was on re-upping with the New York Islanders and on Friday, he made it official, signing a six-year extension to stay with the team.

All-Star Forward has career-high 62 points

The New York Islanders have agreed to terms with Josh Bailey on a six-year contract, ensuring that the All-Star forward will remain with the club that drafted him through the 2023-24 season.  

Bailey, 28, has established career highs in points (62) and assists (47) through 58 games this season. The Islanders' first-round pick (ninth overall) in the 2008 NHL Draft is second on the Islanders and tied for seventh in the league in assists this season. He is also third on the team in points.

Auston Matthews scored the tying goal was 3:29 to play and Tyler Bozak scored the only goal of the shootout as the Toronto Maple Leafs overcame three points from Mathew Barzal to defeat the Isles 4-3 before a sellout crowd of 18,856 at Air Canada Center.

Islander rookies Ryan Pulock and Mathew Barzal scored 3:06 apart in the first period to give the Isles a 2-0 lead. Barzal finished with at least three points for the eighth time this season as he took over the club lead in assists (48, to Josh Bailey's 47) and points (65, to John Tavares' 64).

Toronto has won eight straight games at home; it's their longest home winning streak since 2007.
