Volunteerism In Action:

C.H.A.R.G.E. Employee Volunteer Program

Lightning employees are passionate about giving back to the community we call home. Each year, under Mr. Vinik's leadership, all full time Lightning employees volunteer a minimum of a full week (40 hours) at non-profits throughout the Tampa Bay community.

In the past eight years, Lightning employees have completed over 45,000 hours of volunteer service at over 200 charitable organizations through the Lightning C.H.A.R.G.E. (Contributing Hours Across our Region through our Generous Employees) employee volunteer program.

Weekly Volunteering

Employees volunteer each week with numerous non-profit organizations. On a weekly and bi-weekly basis, the Lighting hold academic and hockey mentoring sessions with local public-school students through the Guide the Thunder program. Employees also deliver meals to senior citizens and other individuals in need and lend a hand to the local animal shelter.

Do-Good Days

Lightning employees championed nearly a dozen 'Do Good Days' across the Tampa Bay area, during which our 200 full-time employees rolled up their sleeves to help out non-profits in need.

Giving Back with the Bolts

The Tampa Bay Lightning is incredibly lucky to have Season Ticket Members (STMs) who are also passionate about giving back in the community. Throughout the 2018-2019 season, STMs partnered with Lightning staff in the community to volunteer with the United Way at the Rowlett Park Teen Enrichment Center renovation and a mangroves clean-up through Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful.

Holiday Volunteering

During the Holiday season, the Lightning organization hosts food, toy and monetary drives on Ford Thunder Alley to help designated non-profits. Players and employees also volunteer the non-profits including the local family homeless shelter and, thanks to Mr. Vinik's generosity, employees are given a monetary contribution to pay it forward and help someone in need.
