Legacy Projects

Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation

The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) made a $1 million donation over five years to the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation to purchase a Positron Emission Tomography and Computed Tomography (PET/CT) Scanner.

The addition of this diagnostic equipment will have transformational clinical impact on patient diagnostics and treatment, including surgical and neurological care. The system will be used to enhance leadership in medical training and research, and furthermore, by radiologists and neurologists to develop and expand concussion protocols to better treat and mitigate brain injuries arising from participation in professional and amateur sports.

The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation has a long-standing relationship with the Royal Alexandra Hospital dating back to 1992, and have had a significant impact on multiple areas, including the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit, the patient Healing Garden and other innovative and patient-centered clinical priorities.

Inner City High School

On July 1, 2020, the EOCF announced a gift of more than $5 million to the Inner City Youth Development Association (ICYDA), which includes the Inner City High School building and land it resides on. The donation from the EOCF allows Inner City High School to become financially self-sufficient and sets up the Inner City Youth Development Association for long-term sustainability. In addition to the gift of the land and building, the EOCF will continue to support ICYDA for an additional two years.

Dave Semenko Legacy Project

The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation invested $325,000 to Sport Central in support of the Dave Semenko Legacy Project with financial support from the National Hockey League Players' Association Goals & Dreams Fund. The EOCF has committed to fund two Sport Central initiatives, "Dave's Drive" and "Put a Lid on a Kid", over the next 10 years.

In partnership with the EOCF and Oilers Entertainment Group, Sport Central will facilitate Dave's Drive, an annual equipment drive helping raise awareness, funds and donations for the charitable organization. In addition, the Dave Semenko Put a Lid on a Kid program will be aimed at increasing head safety and concussion prevention for kids in sport by providing new, certified helmets for registered minor hockey players and new bicycle recipients. Every helmet will have a #27 decal applied to it in honour of Semenko.

Turtle Island Logo

This logo was created in collaboration with Edmonton designer and artist Lance Cardinal of Bigstone Cree First Nations, and features the Oilers logo incorporated into the body of a turtle, which in Cree lore represents creation, wisdom and spirituality. The turtle is also a reference to Turtle Island, the land mass upon which all 32 NHL teams compete. The stylized eagle feathers represent one of the highest honours that can be bestowed in Cree culture, in traditionally significant colours representing air, water, fire and earth.

All proceeds from the purchase of these items will be donated to the charities who continue to do important work in supporting our Indigenous communities.
