Tage Thompson cleared COVID-19 protocol and could potentially join the Sabres for their game at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Saturday, coach Don Granato told The Buffalo News on Saturday. Peyton Krebs has also cleared protocol.
Thompson, who leads the Sabres with 23 points, entered protocol on Jan. 10. He was named as Buffalo's "Last Men In" candidate for the All-Star Game on Wednesday.

Krebs entered protocol on Jan. 4 after appearing in three games with the Sabres. Granato said Wednesday that Krebs was feeling well but had not met testing requirements to exit isolation.
"But the longer he's out, the longer it's going to take him to get back into condition," Granato said. "That's the frustrating thing for all of us and we're frustrated for him. But he's feeling good."

The Sabres' matchup with the Red Wings concludes a two-game road trip that opened Thursday with a 4-1 win over Nashville. Jeff Skinner scored a pair of goals while Aaron Dell made 29 saves.
