Tage Thompson turned in his second multi-goal game in five days to lead the Sabres to a 4-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens at KeyBank Center on Friday.
Thompson now has a career-high 10 goals this season, including five in the last four games.

How it happened

Thompson opened the scoring just 4:08 into the contest, burying a feed from Olofsson in the slot. The Sabres had chances to extend their lead in the first period - a near-goal from the crease by Brett Murray and a shot off the crossbar from Zemgus Girgensons among them - but emerged from the period tied 1-1 after Anderson capitalized on a turnover in front of Tokarski.
Buffalo responded with a dominant second period, outshooting Montreal 14-2 and pulling ahead on goals from Eakin and Okposo. Eakin's marker came at 9:49, the product of a give-and-go play on the rush with Vinnie Hinostroza. Okposo followed up on his own rebound to score shorthanded while Murray served a four-minute penalty for high-sticking.
Thompson rounded out the scoring with a shot from the high slot at 3:29 of the third. The Sabres finished with a 39-26 edge in shots.
