The Buffalo Sabres have acquired defenseman Joseph Cecconi from the Dallas Stars in exchange for defenseman Oskari Laaksonen, the team announced Thursday.
Cecconi, 25, is a native of Youngstown, New York and played for the Buffalo Junior Sabres prior to spending parts of two seasons in the USHL with the Muskegon Lumberjacks and a four-year career at the University of Michigan. He was a fifth-round draft pick by the Stars in 2015.

Cecconi also won a gold medal alongside current Sabres players Tage Thompson and Casey Fitzgerald with Team USA at the 2017 World Junior Championship.
The 6-foot-3, right-shot defenseman made his professional debut with the Texas Stars, Dallas' AHL affiliate, at the end of the 2018-19 season. He set AHL career highs in points (16) and games played (65) for Texas last season.
Cecconi has two assists in 12 games with Texas this season, his fifth in the AHL.
The Sabres drafted Laaksonen during the third round in 2017. He has two assists in 10 games with Rochester this season.
