The Buffalo Sabres battled back Tuesday night and held on late for a 4-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes at KeyBank Center.
Craig Anderson led the way with 32 saves. Jeff Skinner, Casey Mittelstadt, Victor Olofsson and Dylan Cozens all scored for the Sabres.
Olofsson broke a 2-2 tie midway through the third period to put Buffalo ahead for good.
Jesper Fast and Nino Niederreiter scored for Carolina while Frederik Andersen stopped 18 shots.
The Sabres are 10-4-3 over their last 17 games and snapped an 11-game losing streak against Carolina. Their last win against the Hurricanes came on March 12, 2016.
Buffalo's power play finished 1-for-3 and finished 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

How it happened

Anderson was strong for the Sabres in the early goings of the game and ended up earning the game's First Star. Despite having a power play in the first five minutes of action, Buffalo was outshot 10-0 in the first 10:50 of play.
Carolina took the lead with 5:02 remaining in the opening period when Fast got loose in front and roofed a backhand in past Anderson.
The Sabres mustered 5 shots to Carolina's 13 through the first 20 minutes, but turned things around in the second.

CAR@BUF: Skinner fires home a shot on a 2 on 1 rush

Following a turnover in the defensive zone, Tage Thompson skated up ice with Skinner on a 2-on-1 and eventually dished it to Skinner, whose shot found deflected off the shaft of Andersen's outstretched stick and in 1:21 into the second period.

CAR@BUF: Mittelstadt rips in a great shot from circle

Mittelstadt fired one in from the right faceoff circle at the 5:59 mark of the second to put the Sabres ahead 2-1.
At the 4:10 mark of the third period, Niederreiter got loose in front to score and tie the game.
Olofsson gave Buffalo the lead with a quick shot from the right faceoff circle with 7:52 left in regulation. Rasmus Dahlin kept the puck in the zone by knocking it down at the blue line and then sent it to Olofsson for a perfect feed.

CAR@BUF: Cozens tucks in a backhander for a PPG

With 4:49 to go, Cozens tucked in a goal on the power play to put the Sabres up by a pair.
Carolina pulled Andersen with 3:56 left and Buffalo weathered the storm to earn two points.
