20220215 olofsson final horn mediawall

Victor Olofsson snapped a 30-game goal drought with his game-winner Tuesday night in the Buffalo Sabres' 6-3 win over the New York Islanders.
He scored again, potting one of Buffalo's two empty-net goals in the final 1:05, to seal the victory. Olofsson hadn't scored since October 31, and missed eight games earlier in the season due to injury.
Buffalo never trailed in Tuesday's game at KeyBank Center, but the Islanders wouldn't go away, tying the game at every turn until Olofsson's go-ahead marker with 2:55 remaining in regulation.
Kyle Okposo, Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch and Henri Jokiharju also scored for Buffalo. Dylan Cozens had three assists for a career-high three points and Peyton Krebs had two helpers.
Dustin Tokarski made 30 saves to earn the victory
Kyle Palmieri scored twice for the Islanders and Anders Lee also added one. Ilya Sorokin stopped 35 shots of 39 shots.
Buffalo went 1-for-2 on the power play and were 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

How it happened

NYI@BUF: Okposo finishes feed from high slot

The Sabres got on the board first thanks to a deflection from Okposo with 9:07 to play in the first period, but the Islanders responded 1:13 later on a goal from Palmieri.
Thompson and Dylan Cozens worked the penalty kill early in the second period and Thompson potted his first-career shorthanded goal at the 1:36 mark to put Buffalo up 2-1.
New York tied things up 7:11 into the second period when, off a faceoff, Lee jammed the puck in for his 13th goal of the season.

NYI@BUF: Tuch deflects shot in with 0.6 seconds left

Buffalo regained the lead with 0.6 seconds left in the middle frame when Tuch redirected a shot by Krebs on the power play.
The Islanders once again tied things up when Palmieri scored his second of the night with a short-side goal 9:56 into the third period.
Olofsson put Buffalo up for good with his one-timer with 2:55 left, capitalizing on a pass from Krebs.
Jokiharju scored Buffalo's first empty netter with 1:05 to play and Olofsson added another with 25.9 seconds remaining.
With a goal and an assist, Tuch has recorded at least a point in each of his six home games for the Sabres this season (3+5). He has 19 points (7+12) in 16 games as a Sabre, including 15 points (6+9) in his last 11 contests.
