How it happened

Buffalo got things going early with Olofsson's first goal. At the 1:41 mark, he put in a rebound off a Tage Thompson shot for his third goal of the season.
At the 8:59 mark, Killorn had a great chance to tie the game, but looking at a wide-open net, he ended up backhanding the puck into Anderson's right pad. Killorn got his revenge with 1:34 left in the period, deflecting in a shot to make it 1-1.
The Sabres were outshot 11-3 in the second period, but they capitalized on their third shot to take the lead. Caggiula stole the puck at his own blue line and pulled away from Mikhail Sergachev to score with 37.8 seconds left and give the Sabres a 2-1 advantage.
Hinostroza put Buffalo up by a pair 4:25 into the third after his straight shot beat Elliott for his first as a Sabre.
Hagg added Buffalo's first empty netter with 5:35 left and Olofsson added another with 2:30 to play.
