Read Dave's Bio

Dave Baseggio joins the Kraken supremely qualified for the pivotal Director of Professional Scouting role for an expansion team. He notched 12 seasons with the Anaheim Ducks, working as a pro scout, director of pro scouting, and in the front-office role of assistant to the general manager. He coached two AHL teams over four seasons and served as an AHL assistant coach for five more seasons. As a player at Yale, he was selected 86th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1986 NHL Draft, playing nine pro seasons in the AHL, IHL, and Europe.

Fun facts: He was captain at Yale as a senior, graduating with a degree in economics and also setting all-time scoring records as a defenseman. He and his brother, Rob, played three seasons together with the Bulldogs with 29 goals and 79 assists from 1985 to 1989.

What to know: Played 12 seasons in NHL (144 goals, 194 assists) with Vancouver Canucks, Hartford Whalers and Carolina Hurricanes. Moved to a scouting role with Carolina, where he last served as Director of European Scouting. Played two seasons with Ron Francis as a teammate, and worked closely with the Kraken GM on the 2014 to 2017 NHL Drafts.

Fun fact: This is Robert's third NHL expansion or relocation experience. He moved with Hartford when the team relocated to Carolina, then was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2000 Expansion Draft that included CBJ and the Minnesota Wild.

Read John's Bio

John Goodwin comes with extensive coaching experience in OHL juniors, including four seasons as assistant coach and three seasons as head coach of the Oshawa Generals. As a player, he led the OHL in scoring in 1980-81 with 56 goals and 110 assists in 68 games, which means he nearly averaged a goal or assist in nearly every period of every game. He additionally played five seasons in the American Hockey League (282 points in 315 games).

Fun facts: Goodwin starred for the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds, following in the footsteps of new boss, Ron Francis, and Wayne Gretzky (who actually left to play in the World Hockey Association, opening up a spot for Goodwin as an OHL rookie). He is considered to be an offensive-play guru.

William White caught the attention of Kraken assistant general manager Ricky Olczyk when given the opportunity to scout some NHL games last season. "His reports had good insights and were very thorough," says Olczyk. "We have a spectrum of experience in our scouting group. We look forward to William's perspective." His experience includes scouting for the AHL Manitoba Moose and serving as a hockey program administrator developing adult and youth leagues internationally.

Fun Facts: He played NCAA hockey for Connecticut College, earning an economics degree and honor roll status. His dad, Scott, is an assistant general manager for the Dallas Stars and general manager of its AHL affiliate Texas Stars.

Read Lorne's Bio

Lorne Henning has won four Stanley Cups, two as a forward for the New York Islanders and two as an assistant coach. He played nine NHL seasons, all with the Islanders, before moving behind the bench as a coach for the Islanders. He served as an Islanders assistant for nine seasons over two stints, plus took over as head coach for parts of three NYI seasons. He was head coach of the Minnesota North Stars (now the Dallas Stars) for two seasons and added five more years as an NHL assistant in Chicago and Anaheim before moving on to front-office roles, most recently with Montreal.

Fun Facts: He assisted on New York Islanders teammate Bob Nystrom's famed May 24, 1980 goal that won the first of four straight Stanley Cups for the Islanders dynasty of the 1980s.

Dave Hunter brings with him a decade of pro and amateur scouting experience in the NHL, getting a part-time start scouting amateur and rising to pro scout. He worked alongside Seattle GM Ron Francis with the Carolina Hurricanes. Hunter played all four college years at Cornell from 1982 to 1986 and has deep coaching experience at Massachusetts high schools, including helping lead the first public high school team to coveted state champions in hockey-mad Massachusetts. As head coach at MIT for four seasons, he won two championships in the Northeast Collegiate Hockey Association. 

Fun facts: Hunter was born in Glasgow, Scotland, but he was raised in the hockey hotbed of St. Catharines, Ont., where he played junior hockey.

European Scouts

Read Pelle's Bio

What to know: Played nine seasons in the NHL, eight-plus with Philadelphia, and was traded to Dallas toward the end of his final season. Starred in the 1987 playoffs and Stanley Cup Final for the Flyers. After the NHL, returned to the top Swedish league for five more seasons, winning the MVP award one year. Worked as a European scout for NHL's Montreal and Edmonton franchises.

Fun fact: Before moving to the NHL, Eklund won Sweden's "Golden Puck" award as the country's best player; he was 21, one of the youngest to win the honor. As an NHL rookie, Pelle led all first-year players with 51 assists, one of three NHL seasons in which he tallied 50-plus assists. Also known as Per-Erik.

What to know: A goalie over six seasons in the elite pro league in his native Finland, then five more seasons with professional teams in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria. Averaged an outstanding .930 save percentage over five consecutive regular seasons in Czech Republic and Slovakia pro leagues, and played even better in the playoffs with a save percentage of .944 during those years. Involved as director of hockey development centers in Finland and Slovakia.

Fun fact: Sasu was an assistant coach for Turkey's national team for the 2015-16 season.

What to know: Joins the Kraken after two seasons as a scout with the Buffalo Sabres organization. After playing career in Sweden, returned to his first junior club, HV71, to serve as a scout for four seasons. HV71 (often just called 'HV' by fans) alums in the NHL include three-time Stanley Cup winner Niklas Hjalmarsson (former Chicago defenseman and alternate captain with Arizona).

Fun fact: Marcus discovered goalie Erik Portillo in Sweden, persuading Buffalo to draft Portillo in the third round (67th overall) in the 2019 Draft. The young goaltender, 20, was named a USHL First Team All-Star.

What to know: Well-connected throughout Russia's Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and juniors leagues, plus several other leagues in Europe (Finland, Slovakia, Ukraine). Played on a world championship U18 team for Team Russia before returning to successful seasons in the Russian professional leagues.

Fun fact: Aleksandr debuted in Russia's top pro league (now called KHL) as a 15-year-old. Played for Team Russia in the CHL Canada/Russia Challenge juniors hockey tournament in 2004 and 2005 in five different Canadian provinces.

What to know: Joins the Kraken from Carolina, where he was head amateur scout for North America. Worked seven seasons with the Hurricanes, moving from part-time to full-time status. Played three seasons in Ontario Hockey League juniors, five seasons of Canadian collegiate hockey, and three pro seasons (two in the Netherlands and one in Lubbock, TX, in the Central Hockey League).

Fun fact: Mike was a St. Mary's collegiate defenseman for fellow Kraken scout Trevor Stienburg during the 1998-99 season, the second year and first winning season of Stienburg's successful 23-year run at the Halifax, NS university.

What to know: Former amateur scout for the Buffalo Sabres since 2017. Caught the attention of NHL teams as a part-time scout evaluating the New England region for the league's Central Scouting service from 2014 to 2017.

Fun fact: Tom was a regional scout for the U.S. Hockey National Team Development Program for six seasons during which the national development program set records for the number of its players selected in the first round and overall total in the NHL Draft.

What to know: Arrived from Arizona, where he was director of European amateur scouting for Coyotes during the 2019-20 season. Served as an amateur scout for Vancouver from 2012 to 2019. Captained Western Michigan for three seasons, including a Central Collegiate Hockey Association championship year (1986) when MacDonald scored 38 goals in 42 games as a senior. MacDonald was drafted by the Calgary Flames in 1983 (151st overall). His pro career was cut short by a devastating knee injury that required total reconstruction. Coached juniors and college hockey in Kingston, ON, as his first job in hockey following his playing days.

Fun facts: Taught business, history, and math at two high schools over 22 years, often teaching the same junior players he coached for the Kingston Frontenacs. Goes to all lengths as a scout, including one trip to Malmo, Sweden, that required an hour-long walk in snow from the train to the arena because no taxis were available.

What to know: Coached the St. Mary's collegiate team in Halifax, NS, for 23 years, stepping down this past June. His teams won league titles in 2002 and 2009, plus a University Cup title in 2010. Selected in the first round of the 1984 NHL Draft (15th overall) by the Quebec Nordiques; played in 72 NHL games for Quebec in a playing career cut short by chronic shoulder injuries.

Fun fact: Trevor's son Matthew was picked in the third round (63rd overall) of the 2019 NHL draft by the Colorado Avalanche.

What to know: Entering his 22nd season as an NHL scout, including four for Calgary, 13 for Anaheim (including four years as head scout), last four with Buffalo as assistant director of amateur scouting. He started his hockey career as director of marketing and business for the famed Peterborough Petes junior club.

Fun fact: Kraken GM Ron Francis played under Jeff's dad, Terry, during his juniors years with the Soo Greyhounds. Terry Crisp played for a decade in the NHL (including two Stanley Cup years with Philadelphia) and was a head coach for nine seasons, winning a Stanley Cup in 1989. Jeff and his wife, Trish, have two sons, Tom (18, juniors) and Kale (16, sled) who play hockey.

What to know: In 1994, Tony joined the Hartford Whalers as a scout, the first of 25 NHL seasons with Hartford and then the Carolina Hurricanes when the franchise relocated. He officially retired after the 2019 NHL Draft, now joining former colleague Ron Francis in an advisory role. The Carolina NHL and AHL rosters are filled with players MacDonald had a large part in drafting.

Fun fact: During his service with Carolina, the Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup in 2006. In the earlier years of a coaching/managing/scouting career that started in 1974, Tony was part of three Memorial Cup top Junior A championship teams.

What to know: In a previous role, accomplished assistant college hockey coach who helped Bemidji (MN) State into the national NCAA spotlight as a top recruiter and developing the team's forwards. Also coached at Division I Niagara University and Division III Utica. Played three seasons in the USHL, then four seasons at Division l Univ. of Massachusetts-Amherst where he received a bachelor's degree in psychology. Kraken Scout focused on amateurs in the U.S.

Fun facts: Moved back home with his wife and daughter to Chicago when hired by the Kraken. Father Eddie Olczyk played 16 seasons in the NHL (top analyst for Turner Sports) and nephew of Kraken assistant GM Ricky Olczyk.

What to know: Working as a scout for Sioux City of the amateur United States Hockey League, joins the Kraken after impressing GM Ron Francis and assistant GM Ricky Olczyk with scouting reports done on spec during the 2019-20 season. Spent three seasons scouting for the Sioux City Musketeers in the USHL.

Fun fact: Worked for the University of Minnesota men's hockey team as a student to create new analytics and in-game statistics for player analysis. Senior research paper covered comparing the statistical performance of drafted NHL prospects across amateur leagues worldwide.
