Brad Larsen joined the Columbus Blue Jackets as an assistant coach on June 16, 2014 after spending the previous two seasons as head coach of the Springfield Falcons, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate. After joining the Falcons as an assistant coach prior to the 2010-11 season, he was promoted to head coach on May 21, 2012 and guided the club to a 92-45-15 record and a pair of Northeast Division titles in two seasons behind the bench.

In 2012-13, Larsen guided Springfield to a 45-22-9 record, which represented a 21-point improvement over the previous season. The Falcons then posted the first 100-point campaign in franchise history in 2013-14, finishing with the AHL’s third-best record at 47-23-6 (100 pts.).

Larsen was a third round pick, 53rd overall, of the Ottawa Senators in the 1995 NHL Draft and a fifth round pick, 87th overall, of the Colorado Avalanche two years later. He enjoyed a 13-year playing career that saw him register 19 goals and 29 assists for 48 points and 134 penalty minutes in 294 NHL games with the Avalanche and Atlanta Thrashers. He also appeared in 384 career AHL games, tallying 96-120-216 and 475 penalty minutes with the Hershey Bears, Chicago Wolves and Portland Pirates before retiring at the end of the 2009-10 campaign.

Prior to starting his pro career, Larsen played his junior hockey with the Western Hockey League’s Swift Current Broncos from 1993-1997. In 238 career WHL games, he totaled 249 points and was named to the 1997 WHL East All Star Team. Larsen was born on June 28, 1977 in Nakusp, British Columbia. He and his wife, Hannah, are the parents of daughter, Faith, and son, Ty.
