Coach Fuhr's Playing Statistics

Grant Fuhr joined the Coyotes organization on July 22, 2004.  He assumed all duties related to the ongoing development of the goaltenders within the Coyotes organization.  The 45-year-old Fuhr served in a similar capacity for the Calgary Flames as goaltending consultant from 2000-01 to 2001-02.

Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003 (his first year of eligibility), Fuhr played 19 seasons in the NHL from 1981-82 to 1999-00 with six different teams (Edmonton, Toronto, Buffalo, Los Angeles, St. Louis and Calgary). He began his career and had his greatest seasons while playing for the Edmonton Oilers from 1981-82 to 1990-91. During his time in Edmonton, Fuhr earned five Stanley Cup Championships with the Oilers (1984, 85, 87,88, 90) and played in the NHL All-Star Game six times (1982, 84-86, 88-89). He was also named to the NHL First All-Star Team in 1988 and the NHL Second All-Star Team in 1982. In addition, Fuhr won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's best goaltender once (1988) and finished as a runner-up several times.

In 868 regular season games in his illustrious NHL career, Fuhr compiled a 403-295-114 record, 25 shutouts and a 3.38 goals against average (GAA).  The Spruce Grove, Alberta native ranks tied for 6th on the NHL's all-time wins list with 403. Fuhr also ranks 6th on the NHL's all-time games played list with 868.

During the playoffs, Fuhr collected a 92-50 record, 6 shutouts and a 2.92 GAA in 150 career games. In NHL history, only Patrick Roy has more playoff wins than Fuhr's 92. Fuhr also ranks 3rd on the NHL's all-time goaltending list in postseason games played with 150.

Fuhr's best season came in 1987-88 when he led the NHL in games played (75), minutes (4,304), wins (40) and shutouts (4). Fuhr's play that season earned him the Vezina Trophy and he finished as runner-up to teammate Wayne Gretzky (who is currently the managing partner for the Coyotes) for the Hart Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player. Later that season, Fuhr led the Oilers to their fourth Stanley Cup championship in five seasons with an incredible record of 16-2 and a 2.90 GAA in 19 playoff games.

In 1995-96 while with St. Louis, Fuhr established a new NHL record for games played in one season by a goaltender, playing in 79 of 82 games and surpassing his previous NHL record of 75 games set in 1987-88 while with Edmonton. Fuhr started an amazing 76 straight games in '95-96, setting an NHL record for consecutive starts in one season by a goaltender. Two seasons previous, Fuhr shared the William M. Jennings Trophy (awarded to the goaltending tandem with the NHL's lowest goals against) with teammate Dominik Hasek while with the Buffalo Sabres in 1993-94. Fuhr was originally drafted by Edmonton in the first round (8th overall) of the 1981 Entry Draft.

Grant and his wife Candice reside in Edmonton with their four children: Janine, Rochelle, R.J. and Kendy.
