Wild's Stewart out for Game 3 against Blackhawks

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Minnesota Wild forward Chris Stewart will not play in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Second Round series against the Chicago Blackhawks at Xcel Energy Center (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).

Stewart, who sustained an upper-body injury during the second period of Game 2, is day-to-day. He was hauled down by Blackhawks defenseman Johnny Oduya and crashed hard into the end boards and left the game briefly.

Jordan Schroeder skated in Stewart's place on the second line, but coach Mike Yeo said not to read too much into it.

"Our players didn't even know our lines this morning. So just because he went there doesn't mean you should assume he'll be on that line," Yeo said.

Wherever Schroeder plays, he brings an element of speed and playmaking ability the Wild need if they hope to get back into the best-of-7 series they trail 2-0.

"He's played against these guys this year, and he's actually played pretty effectively against them," Yeo said. "[He brings] speed on the outside, but certainly what we're going to need from him, and we've seen it last game, it's one thing to try and create but you have to make sure you're smart about how you manage the puck. Whether it's him or anybody in our lineup, we have to make sure our speed is a factor. But we're not fast if we're turning over the pucks."

Schroeder made his Stanley Cup Playoff debut in Game 2 of the first round against the St. Louis Blues on April 18 but hasn't played since. He said he plans on attacking Chicago with his speed no matter where he is in the lineup.

"That's my game; speed, speed, speed," Schroeder said. "I've just got to be constantly moving and being responsible defensively by using my speed wide and pushing the [defensemen] back. They play a speed and skill type game so I think I feed into that well."

An overnight power outage in downtown St. Paul affected the quality of the ice early Tuesday, but conditions were improving and Yeo said he expected no issues for the game.

"We've got a great crew here. They were thrown a curveball last night but they did a great job as far as handling it," Yeo said. "It was maybe a little bit heavy, but you could tell that it has cooled off a lot, especially since when I saw it this morning. And they'll have it ready to go for tonight."
