Lightning, Cooper want same effort in Game 2

TAMPA -- Tampa Bay Lightning coach Jon Cooper didn't want to say that his team will be desperate going into Game 2 of its Eastern Conference First Round series against the Detroit Red Wings at Amalie Arena on Saturday (3 p.m. ET; CBC, NBC, NBCSN, TVA Sports).

However, there's little doubt that Tampa Bay does not want to face a 2-0 deficit in the best-of-7 series.

"We'll be swinging for the fences," Cooper said. "We'll be ready."

Cooper said that he found little fault in the effort the Lightning played with in Game 1. However, he was dismayed by the final result.

"It's still brutal because when we finished the game we still lost," Cooper said. "Sometimes you have to tip your cap to the other team and say, 'All right, you took one from us.'"

Tampa Bay held a 46-14 shot advantage in Game 1, but Cooper said he would like to see a different offensive approach to how the Lightning pressure Detroit Red Wings goaltender Petr Mrazek.

"We did have 46 shots but we let Mrazek see a lot of them," Cooper said. "We've got to make it harder for him to see the puck on our chances."

Lightning forward Tyler Johnson said the key to getting Mrazek out of his comfort zone will be to create more chaos in front of him.

"We didn't get a lot of rebounds and Detroit did their part by tying up sticks and helping Mrazek," Johnson said. "It's important for us to get those loose pucks and make things harder for him."

The Lightning have lost their past five playoff games, but the players remain confident. A win Saturday could help them trend in the other direction.

"I'm excited to get back out there [Saturday]," Lightning goalie Ben Bishop said. "We're going to do whatever it takes not to lose two in a row on home ice."
