NHL COMES TO COLUMBUS
The NHL awarded an expansion franchise to Columbus, Ohio, and a group of investors led by John H. McConnell on June 25, 1997. On Nov. 11, 1997, team officials announced the name of the franchise would be the Blue Jackets in honor of the rich Civil War history in Ohio. (Columbus Blue Jackets)
