• A finalist for the 2010 Mr. Hockey Award, given to the most outstanding senior high school hockey player in the state of Minnesota, Alt has committed to join the University of Minnesota Gophers next season.

• He is the son of former NFL tackle, Jon Alt, who played for the Kansas City Chiefs and currently helps coach Mark’s Cretin-Derham Hall high school football team – Mark passed up an opportunity to play football at his father’s alma mater, Iowa, to pursue hockey.

• Alt is also an exceptional football player. In 2009, he quarterbacked the Cretin-Derham Hall football team to their first state title since 1999, when Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer was the quarterback. He was also named Minnesota’s Most Outstanding High School Football Player.
