His father, Brian Verbeek, was selected 242nd overall by the Hartford Whalers in the 1986 NHL Draft. His uncle, Pat Verbeek, won a Stanley Cup with the Dallas Stars in 1999 and recorded 522-541—1,063 in 1,424 career NHL games with the New Jersey Devils, Hartford Whalers, New York Rangers, Stars and Detroit Red Wings. He currently serves as assistant general manager and director of player personnel for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
