Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson will not participate in the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game because of a lower-body injury, the team said Thursday.

Johnson is tied for first among NHL defensemen with a career-high 12 goals and is second among Avalanche defensemen with 23 points. He is also first on the team in average time on ice (24:25) and blocked shots (107).

Johnson, 26, was the first Avalanche defenseman to be selected to the All-Star Game since Rob Blake in 2003-04. Ray Bourque and Sandis Ozolinsh are the only other Avalanche defensemen to be chosen for the All-Star Game since the franchise relocated from Quebec to Denver for the 1995-96 season.

This would have been Johnson's first appearance in an All-Star Game, though he did represent the Western Conference at the 2008 YoungStars game during his rookie season with the St. Louis Blues.
