COLUMBUS -- Fittingly, it was the captain who broke the record.

When Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks wheeled in front of the net and put a shot over the shoulder of St. Louis Blues goalie Brian Elliott at 14:21 of the third period, he helped set a record for goals in an All-Star Game. It also left little doubt that Team Toews would win the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game at Nationwide Arena on Sunday.

Toews' goal made the score 16-11 for his team, beating the previous record of 26 goals scored in 2001 when North America beat the World 14-12 at Pepsi Center in Denver.

The final score was 17-12, giving Team Toews the victory a night after it was soundly defeated in the 2015 Honda NHL Skills Competition by Team Foligno.

Team Toews outscored Team Foligno 6-4 in the third period on goals from Rick Nash of the New York Rangers, John Tavares of the New York Islanders, Jakub Voracek of the Philadelphia Flyers, Tyler Seguin of the Dallas Stars, Filip Forsberg of the Nashville Predators and Toews.

Team Foligno's got two goals from Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks and Bobby Ryan of the Ottawa Senators. Brent Burns of the San Jose Sharks also scored in the third period.

Elliott made nine saves on 15 shots; Team Toews goalie Jaroslav Halak (New York Islanders) made six saves on 10 shots.
