Versteeg will miss third straight for Panthers

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Right wing Kris Versteeg will miss his third consecutive game Monday night when the Florida Panthers play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Versteeg, who hasn't played since sustaining an upper-body injury in last Tuesday's 6-5 overtime loss against Washington, did not take part in the team's morning skate and coach Kevin Dineen said he was definitely out.

Versteeg has one goal and two assists in seven games after finishing third on the team with 54 points last season.

The Panthers also continue to be without defenseman Ed Jovanovski (knee), Sean Bergenheim (lower body), Scottie Upshall (ankle) and Michael Caruso (wrist).

Bishop to start Monday afternoon for Senators

NEWARK, N.J. -- Ottawa Senators backup goalie Ben Bishop will make his third start of the season on Monday afternoon against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center (1 p.m. ET, SNET-E, MSG).

Starting goalie Craig Anderson, who is 7-4-2 with a 1.61 goals-against average and .948 save percentage, will earn some rest after making three starts in five days but will likely return between the pipes on Tuesday at Scotiabank Place to face the New York Islanders.

Bishop (0-2-0, 3.03 GAA, .910 save percentage) is not only making his first start since a 36-save performance in a 1-0 loss to the Winnipeg Jets in Ottawa on Feb. 9, but seeking his first win since March 16, 2012.

AHL player stable, alert after seizure

Wade MacLeod of the American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons was "stable and alert" Sunday night at a local hospital after suffering a seizure during the second period of a game against the Adirondack Phantoms, a release from the team said.

MacLeod, who was hit into the glass by Adirondack’s Brandon Manning just before the seizure, was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

MacLeod sent the following message from his Twitter account late in the evening: "Feeling very blessed with all the love and support I've received. I am feeling a lot better. Thank you everyone!"

"Banged-up" Nash to play for Rangers

NEW YORK -- A "banged-up" Rick Nash took part in pregame warmups for the New York Rangers on Sunday night, and he is in the lineup against the Washington Capitals (6 p.m. ET, NBCSN) at Madison Square Garden.

"He's banged up," Rangers coach John Tortorella said. "We're going to see if he can go."

Nash did not take part in Rangers' practice Saturday, although the day off was characterized as a maintenance day by Tortorella at that time. Later Saturday, the Rangers recalled forward Chris Kreider from Connecticut of the AHL one day after he was assigned to the Whale.

Canucks making one change to lineup

The Vancouver Canucks will make one lineup change after having a six-game winning streak snapped, with Roberto Luongo back in goal after Cory Schneider struggled in Vancouver's 4-3 loss to the Dallas Stars Friday.

While that will only increase the glare of an already bright spotlight on the Canucks' rotating goalie situation, Luongo is the first to pass the credit for his NHL-leading 1.45-goals against average to the tight defensive play in front of him.

Going into the Canucks' game against the St. Louis Blues Sunday night, Vancouver leads the NHL with just 14 goals against while playing five-on-five. Four of those came Friday in a blown-lead loss to the Stars, and that included two Schneider would admittedly want back. Up until that game, though, Luongo said this is as tight as the Canucks have played in his six-plus seasons here.

"It's not just us goalies and the D, it's the forwards too, coming back, putting pressure on guys, making sure they don't have the time and space to make plays," Luongo said. "It all starts with back pressure – we've barely given up any odd-man rushes. If you eliminate that from the game we already have a big jumpstart on other teams. After that just make sure we play our system 5-on-5 and don't give up much."

Canadiens' Gallagher out with concussion

Montreal Canadiens' wing Brendan Gallagher, whose five goals tie him with Nail Yakupov and Cory Conacher for second among NHL rookies, will miss the team's next game after sustaining a concussion Saturday night against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The team revealed following practice on Sunday that the 20-year-old rookie suffered the concussion while being checked into the boards by Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn. Canadiens coach Michel Therrien said Gallagher was feeling fine Sunday but would be held out of the game Monday night against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Gallagher opened the scoring Saturday night with his fifth goal of the season, tying him with Rene Bourque for second on the Canadiens. Two other players who left the game early with injuries, wing Max Pacioretty and defenseman Alexei Emelin, both returned to practice Sunday morning after sustaining upper-body injuries.

Therrien also revealed that backup goaltender Peter Budaj would get his second straight start Monday. Budaj filled in Saturday for starter Carey Price, who has been sidelined by an illness.
