Coyotes send top pick Max Domi to OHL

The Phoenix Coyotes are sending 2013 first-round pick Max Domi back to his junior team, Domi said Saturday on Twitter.

The son of longtime NHL player Tie Domi, Max Domi had 39 goals and 87 points in 64 regular-season games for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League last season before adding 11 goals and 32 points in 21 postseason contests.

"Had an amazing experience in Phoenix!" Domi tweeted. "Learned a lot and can't thank everyone enough! So pumped to get back at it with the boys in London!"

No timetable on Vokoun; Penguins stick with Zatkoff

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Pittsburgh Penguins won't know how long goaltender Tomas Vokoun will be out until he visits with his doctors early next week, general manager Ray Shero said Friday. Vokoun had emergency surgery last week because of a blood clot in his pelvis.

Vokoun's agent, Allan Walsh, wrote on his Twitter account Friday that the goalie is expected to start light workouts next week.

"I met with Tomas [Thursday] and we'll have more of an update probably next week," Shero told NHL.com. "Fortunately for him he dodged a bullet. Luckily he was at the rink and we got him to the hospital so the procedures went well. We'll just have to wait and see what the next steps are going to be and go from there. Our concerns are just with him and his health, but it was good to see him [Thursday]."

Oilers encouraged by Belov's play

An Edmonton Oilers team that was criticized last season for its lack of depth on defense was bolstered by the offseason signing of Andrew Ference. But there was another veteran defenseman acquired during the summer in the hopes of building depth on the back end.

Anton Belov may have come into camp as an unknown entity, but his improvement during the course of the preseason is earning him praise from Oilers brass. The 27-year-old spent the past five seasons playing with Avangard Omsk of the Kontinental Hockey League before being signed by Edmonton in May.

He may be new to the NHL, but Below isn't playing like a rookie.

Panthers' Thomas enjoys first game back in NHL

Tim Thomas is back in the NHL.

Thomas played the first half of the Florida Panthers' preseason game against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Estero, Fla., on Thursday, a few hours after agreeing to a one-year contract with the team.

The 39-year-old allowed one goal on 10 shots in his first action since April 2012 before being replaced by Jacob Markstrom in a game the Panthers lost 3-2 in overtime.

"It felt good for being the first time in a game-like atmosphere for 15 months," Thomas told the Miami Herald. "I think it was a necessary step for me. I thought it was good not to wait. We're running out of preseason games. I feel ready now."
