New York Islanders forward Cal Clutterbuck will miss the next four to six weeks with a leg laceration, the team announced Friday morning.
Clutterbuck was injured Tuesday in the third period of a preseason game against the Calgary Flames when he went to make a hit on Paul Byron and got cut by a skate. It was his first game in an Islanders uniform since coming to the team from the Minnesota Wild in a draft-day trade.
The New Jersey Devils reassigned 21 players on Friday, sending 15 to their American Hockey League affiliate and six others to their respective junior teams.
Goaltender Anthony Brodeur, taken in the final round of the 2013 NHL Draft, fell into the latter group, as he was sent back to Gatineau of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Also returned to juniors were forwards Myles Bell (Kelowna, Western Hockey League), Graham Black (Swift Current, WHL), Remy Giftopoulos (Windsor, Ontario Hockey League), Ben Johnson (Windsor, OHL) and Ryan Kujawinski (Kingston, OHL).
Jagr skated on his own for the second day in a row Thursday, general manager Lou Lamoriello told Northjersey.com. The wing has been sidelined from training camp and preseason games since last Thursday with soreness.
The Anaheim Ducks on Thursday assigned 12 players to the Norfolk Admirals, their American Hockey League affiliate, leaving 41 players in training camp.
The Ducks have 21 forwards, 15 defensemen and five goaltenders remaining with the club.
The Colorado Avalanche reduced their preseason roster to 42 players on Thursday by returning three players to their junior teams and sending forward Michael Schumacher to the Lake Erie Monsters, their affiliate in the American Hockey League.
The Avalanche returned forward Troy Bourke to Prince George of the Western Hockey League, defenseman Mason Geertsen to Vancouver of the WHL and goaltender Spencer Martin to Mississauga of the Ontario Hockey League.
"These (Murray and Bouillon) are training camp injuries. It's nothing major, and we are just making sure not to aggravate those injuries," coach Michel Therrien said, according to the team's website.
"Drewiske will be out for a month. His injury is more serious, but that's why you need to have a lot of good defensemen in your system. We recalled [Darren] Dietz, who was in Kingston [when we got in touch with him]. He had to make a U-turn and come back to Montreal."
Alfredsson, 40, has a minus-2 rating with one shot on goal in one preseason game.
Forward Johan Franzen also will not play. The team's website said he skated Thursday morning with the first group at Joe Louis Arena but is experiencing a painful hip flexor. Mikael Samuelsson will replace Franzen in the lineup.
