The record-breaking crowd was roaring an hour before the game. Sabres, Pens to play outdoors on New Year's Day The Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins will make NHL history on New Year’s Day, 2008, when they play in the AMP NHL Winter Classic, the League’s first regular-season outdoor game in the United States. The Sabres were disappointed by Tuesday's outcome, but overall, Buffalo’s players and coaches thrilled in the spectacle of it all. 
Ty Conklin is the first NHL goalie to play in two outdoor games. Tuesday’s win also evened his record in the great outdoors to 1-1. 
Snow? What snow? That was the attitude among the thousands of fans who flocked to The AMP Energy NHL Winter Classic on Tuesday.
