NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tomas Vokoun couldn't take it easy while working on his first shutout of the season.

Vokoun made 31 saves for his 13th career shutout to help the Nashville Predators beat the Calgary Flames 2-0 Tuesday night.

``It's tough to establish yourself,'' said Vokoun, who improved to 13-4-2 this season. ``You just can't relax for a second. ... We've been playing well. Sometimes you get good breaks at home, but to win on a consistent basis, you have to be doing the right things, not just getting lucky.''

Vernon Fiddler scored his first goal of the season with 1:27 left in the first period, skating through the right faceoff circle and putting the puck over Nashville goalie Miikka Kiprusoff's right shoulder.

``They came at us pretty hard off the bat so it was good to get us on top,'' Fiddler said. ``Their D-men went down so I just wanted to take the puck to the net. Then Kiprusoff went down and I shot for the far post.''

Scott Hartnell added a power play goal with 14 seconds remaining in the game.

``Vernon Fiddler made a big goal (by) keeping it simple, taking it to the net and driving,'' Predators coach Barry Trotz said. ``Fiddler's line was strong. The other two lines had their moments. We just need more moments from them.''

Nashville was outshot 31-17, but Vokoun stopped everything thrown his way.

``Vokoun made some great saves,'' Calgary captain Jerome Iginla said. ``(He) reads the play well. He'll come across or he'll stand up when he knows you're going top corner, and that shows he can read the play.''

It was Nashville's seventh win in nine games, and Calgary lost its second straight after winning 10 of 11.

The Flames were 0-for-6 on the power play, as the Predators moved into second place in the NHL in penalty-killing - improved their percentage to 86.6.

``They did a good job killing and any chance we did get, Vokoun was there,'' Calgary winger Darren McCarty said.

Nashville was 1-for-6 on the power play, and has scored with the man advantage in eight straight games.

Notes: Nashville managed only four shots on goal in the second period and just 10 in the first two periods. ... Only Minnesota (89 percent) has a better penalty-killing unit than Nashville. ... Hartnell's goal was his sixth in the last nine games.
