Olofsson's two-goal game lifts Sabres in OT

BUFFALO --Victor Olofsson scored his second power-play goal 36 seconds into overtime to give the Buffalo Sabres a 4-3 come-from-behind win against the Chicago Blackhawks at KeyBank Center on Saturday.

Olofsson won it on a one-timer from the right circle off a pass from Rasmus Dahlin.
"I had a good, good chance right before," Olofsson said. 'I shot it right off [Blackhawks defenseman Jake] McCabe there, and I knew 'Ras' was going to find me again. … I'll take it."
Tage Thompson scored twice in the third period to tie it, Jeff Skinner and Kyle Okposo each had two assists, and Craig Anderson made 23 saves for the Sabres (5-3-0), who had lost two straight.
"You're going to go through a whole season, you're going to face these moments, and we were really concerned with the response and the moments when we face them," Buffalo coach Don Granato said. "That's how you're going to become a better hockey team. … The other night was extremely frustrating (3-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday), but you've got to learn how to handle that and you got to learn to fight through it, and I thought that probably helped us tonight."

CHI@BUF: Dahlin sets up Olofsson for OT winner

Jason Dickinson, Sam Lafferty and Taylor Raddysh scored for the Blackhawks (4-3-1), who have lost two in a row.
"We got away from our skating game a little bit, and it doesn't take much for that team to make you pay," Lafferty said. "So yeah, disappointing, but some good things to build on for tomorrow (against the Minnesota Wild)."
Arvid Soderblom made 41 saves in his season debut.
"He played great. He really deserved better tonight, and I thought he looked really calm in there, made some really big saves on chances that were primaries," Chicago coach Luke Richardson said. "That's something we want to clean up as a team, especially in front of a young goaltender, but he showed a lot of poise out there. It was nice to see."
Thompson narrowed it to 3-2 at 11:55 of the third, sweeping in the rebound of Okposo's initial shot in front. He then tied it 3-3 at 16:47 when he batted the puck out of the air near the right post following a wraparound attempt by Skinner.
"I think it was just a matter of time," said Thompson, who had eight shots on goal for the second straight game. "If you're getting chances, I think that's all you can really ask for. If you're not getting chances, that's when you've kind of got to be looking yourself in the mirror to see what's going on. If you're getting chances, I think they're bound to go in. Previous game, maybe facing a hot goalie and unlucky bounces here or there, so it was nice to get a couple tonight."

CHI@BUF: Thompson bats in 2nd of game for tie

Olofsson gave Buffalo a 1-0 lead at 6:19 of the first period, scoring a power-play goal from the high slot off a face-off win by Casey Mittelstadt.
The goal came eight seconds after he had a goal disallowed following a challenge for offside.
Dickinson tied it 1-1 on the power play at 10:20, poking the puck in during a scramble in the crease. Granato challenged the play for goaltender interference, but the call stood after a video review.
Lafferty put the Blackhawks ahead 2-1 at 4:49 of the second period, scoring after a loose puck squirted out to him to the left of the net.
Raddysh pushed it to 3-1 at 6:20. Philipp Kurashev's shot from the point got through to the front of the net, where Raddysh kicked the rebound to his stick and scored with a backhand.
"I thought it was the last part of the third period, the second half, maybe even their penalty kill gave them some spark," Richardson said. "We've seen that on our side, so we understand how that can lift a team and get it going. But we've got to fight through that. We're not necessarily a really young team right now, but we're a new team, and finding that togetherness will be through lessons like tonight and last game (6-5 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday)."
NOTES: Patrick Kane played his 1,115th game, moving him past Brent Seabrook for third in Blackhawks history. … Sabres defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin was a late scratch with a lower-body injury. Granato said he had been playing through the injury after missing a game because of it on Oct. 20. "We feel that giving him a little bit of time off should remedy it sooner than later.". … It was the Sabres' first win after trailing by multiple goals in the third period since Dec. 11, 2018 (4-3 overtime win against the Los Angeles Kings).
