Pavelski's two-goal night fuels Stars' Game 3 win

DALLAS -- Joe Pavelski scored two goals for the Dallas Stars in a 4-2 win against the Calgary Flames in Game 3 of the Western Conference First Round at American Airlines Center on Saturday.

Shortly after Jacob Markstrom stacked his pads to make a save on Miro Heiskanen, Pavelski scored on the rebound of another shot by Heiskanen to tie it 2-2 at 11:41 of the second.
Pavelski then gave Dallas a 3-2 lead at 10:05 of the third period, again getting to a rebound in front on the power play.
"It's another step," Pavelski said. "There was a lot of effort out there tonight from up and down the lineup. Lot of physicality, guys hanging in, taking checks, making plays, giving checks. It was a competitive game. Our group was very competitive, and I like that."
Of the four goals the Stars have scored on Markstrom in the series, Pavelski has three of them. He also scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win in Game 2 on Thursday.
"Elite athletes man, they find a way to rise to the occasion," Dallas coach Rick Bowness said. "Joe came up big, but again, it's always around the net. There's a timing to get there. There's a timing anticipating the shot. You can't get there late, you can't get there early, there's a timing with that. Obviously he has it down pat."

Faksa gave Dallas a 1-0 lead at 8:21 of the first period. He won a face-off back Heiskanen before skating to the front of the net and redirecting a point shot from Esa Lindell during a 4-on-4.
"I talked to the players this morning about after the whistles," Flames coach Darryl Sutter said. "You've got to go whistle to whistle, that's the bottom line. That's where the game's played, not after the whistle."
Lewis tied it 1-1 at 13:45 of the first when he chipped a rebound over a sprawling Oettinger. Bowness challenged the play for goaltender interference, but the call was upheld after a video review.
It was the first goal Oettinger had allowed in 128:44.
Lindholm gave Calgary a 2-1 lead at 3:40 of the second period on a one-timer from the edge of the right face-off circle.
After Pavelski's two goals put the Stars back in front, Oettinger preserved the lead when he made a right pad save on a breakaway attempt by Johnny Gaudreau at 16:27 of the third.
"I was just trying to get out there and take away some ice," Oettinger said. "I felt like he didn't have room to make a move, so I thought he was going to shoot. Thankfully I made the save."

Roope Hintz shot into an empty net with one second left for the 4-2 final.
"Our group still feels really good, really confident in our ability," Calgary forward Blake Coleman said. "We win one game we have home ice back, and that's the goal coming in here. There's no panic in our room. We have a lot of guys who have been here in these situations. Like I said, it's seven games for a reason."
