BUF@NYR: Lindgren scores in 3rd period

Ryan Lindgren scored with 0.7 seconds remaining to give the New York Rangers a 5-4 win against the Buffalo Sabres at Madison Square Garden in New York on Sunday.

Chris Kreider won a puck battle behind the net to Adam Fox, who passed to Mika Zibanejad in the left circle. Zibanejad then quickly sent a pass to Lindgren, who tapped the puck into an open net past the outstretched stick of Aaron Dell.
"Me and 'Foxy' are standing up kind of back towards the point and look up and see the clock and kind of realize with five seconds left there's probably not going to be enough time for them to bring it all the way down, so you just keep sneaking in," Lindgren said. "The puck got to Foxy, who kicked it out to Mika. Obviously, a great play by him. Just a great win."

Artemi Panarin had three assists for the Rangers (11-4-3), who have won five of their past six games. Alexandar Georgiev allowed four goals on 18 shots before being replaced at the start of the third period by Igor Shesterkin, who made four saves.
"We were sloppy in the second period, didn't get off to a great start in the first period either, but it's one of those games," New York coach Gerard Gallant said. "But we found a way to get two points at the end."
Rasmus Dahlin and Tage Thompson each had a goal and an assist, and Dell made 31 saves for the Sabres (7-8-2), who have lost two in a row and eight of their past 10 (2-7-1).
"We definitely tightened up in the third period, squeezed our stick a little more," Buffalo coach Don Granato said. "But I didn't feel we were bad. Again, I guess the word I keep using is hesitation. We need to be assertive. When we struggled in the third, we hesitated, maybe took a step back. … These situations that's happened to us in the last few days, when you're not getting what you want, you tend to be more hesitant, and we can't have that happen."
Rasmus Asplund gave Buffalo a 1-0 lead at 15:53 of the first period on a rebound in front of the net on the power play. The goal ended an 0-for-16 drought with the man-advantage.
"I think we bounced back good from last game (a 5-0 loss to the Calgary Flames on Thursday)," Asplund said. "This is a tough building to come in and play, and we showed up to play today. Of course it stings, what happened at the end there. But we've just got to keep learning and keep earning it."

BUF@NYR: Kakko scores in 2nd period

Kreider tied it 1-1 at 19:37, scoring a power-play goal off a pass from Panarin in the slot.
Vinnie Hinostroza made it 2-1 at 2:26 of the second period, stealing the puck from defenseman Jarred Tinordi in the Rangers' zone before breaking in and scoring top shelf.
Jacob Trouba tied it 2-2 at 8:03 on a delayed penalty, poking in a loose puck at the left side of the net.
"We talked about getting more pucks to the net from the blue line," Trouba said. "At the end of the day, you've got to get pucks there and that's kind of how they all end up going in. … You've got to get bodies there and get traffic."
Kaapo Kakko gave New York a 3-2 lead at 12:07, using his time and space to skate from the top of the right circle to the slot before shooting past Dell.
Thompson answered right back at 12:57 to tie it 3-3, and 15 seconds later, Dahlin put the Sabres back ahead 4-3 with a slap shot from the blue line.
K'Andre Miller then responded for the Rangers 17 seconds later to tie it again 4-4, scoring with a point shot through traffic.
"A lot of fun for the people in the building, I'm sure," Granato said. "And again, it's momentum swings. You're in somebody else's building, the crowd is a big part of that four goals. … The noise and the atmosphere and emotion creates and adds to that. That's something we have to manage, but I thought for the most part we showed marked improvement."
NOTES:Lindgren is the 24th player, and fourth defenseman, in NHL history to score a go-ahead goal in the final second in regulation. He is also the fourth player in Rangers history to do so, joining Brad Richards (Dec. 17, 2011), Dean Prentice (Nov. 16, 1960) and Grant Warwick (March 18, 1945). … Victor Olofsson had one assist and one shot on goal in 16:45 of ice time in his first game since Oct. 31. He missed the previous eight games with an undisclosed injury. … Rangers forward Ryan Reaves played in his 700th NHL game.
