Evander Kane

DETROIT -- Evander Kane scored twice, and the Buffalo Sabres ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-3 win against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday.
Robin Lehner made 40 saves, and Sam Reinhart and Jack Eichel scored for Buffalo (13-13-8). Sabres coach Dan Bylsma got his 300th NHL win.
"That's a great milestone for a coach, and I'm glad we could get it for him in the same rink where he won a Stanley Cup," Eichel said.

Petr Mrazek made 18 saves for Detroit (15-16-4), which is 3-10-3 in its past 16 home games.
"I've got to be better than that," Mrazek said. "If I give up one or two goals, we have a chance to win that game."
The Red Wings trailed 2-0 and 3-1, but tied the game 3-3 on Thomas Vanek's power-play goal at 6:33 of the third period. Detroit had failed to score on its past 28 chances with the man-advantage.
"I thought we kept playing hard, even when we were down two goals," Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg said. "We got back in the game, but we couldn't build on it."

Kane put the Sabres back in front 4-3 at 8:29, beating Mrazek from the left faceoff circle for his second goal.
"After they tied it, we talked about needing to win a 12-minute game, and we were able to do that," Bylsma said.
Lehner made 19 saves in the third period.
"We knew they were going to come after us, and our defense was doing everything they could," he said. "That was a battle."
Kane gave Buffalo a 1-0 lead at 7:12 of the first period with his seventh goal. Mrazek stopped Kane's original wraparound attempt, but he was able to flip the rebound over the goalie's shoulder.
The Sabres took a 2-0 lead at 15:54 when Reinhart scored a power-play goal. Rasmus Ristolainen took a shot from the point, and Mrazek was in position for the save, but Reinhart tipped it past him from the edge of the crease.
"It's hard to win in this League, and constantly having to play from behind makes it harder," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "You aren't going to win many when you give up four goals, either."
Zetterberg made it 2-1 at 14:46 of the second with a bad-angle shot that deflected in off Lehner.
The Sabres scored 22 seconds later to take a 3-1 lead. Eichel broke in down the left wing and flipped a shot into the top of the net.
"I had given Detroit the momentum by letting that puck go in, so it was huge when the guys bailed me right out," Lehner said.
Drew Miller made it 3-2 at 16:14, knocking a loose puck past Lehner after Dylan Larkin's shot was blocked in front.

Goal of the game

Eichel's goal brought Detroit's momentum to a quick halt, but also provided one of the game's highlights. He beat Vanek down the ice before putting a shot over Mrazek's right shoulder.
"When you see a forward back in a spot like that, you know you might be able to make a play," Eichel said. "When I saw it was Vanek, I just tried to beat him with my speed."

Saves of the game

Lehner made a double save on Vanek to keep the game 0-0 early in the first period. Vanek deflected Gustav Nyquist's pass from the edge of the crease, but Lehner stopped the initial shot and the rebound with his right pad.

Highlight of the game

Mrazek was in perfect position to stop Ristolainen's shot from the point, but didn't have a chance when Reinhart deflected it into the bottom-right corner.

Unsung performance of the game

With 90 seconds to play and Mrazek heading to the bench, Andreas Athanasiou found open ice and broke into the Buffalo zone, but defenseman Josh Gorges was able to prevent a scoring chance by knocking the puck off his stick.
