Jones leads Blackhawks to comeback victory in OT

CHICAGO --Seth Jones scored at 2:24 of overtime after tying it with 56 seconds left in the third period to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 4-3 win against the Buffalo Sabres at United Center on Tuesday.

Jones won it when he backhanded a feed from Tyler Johnson on a 2-on-1. He tied it 3-3 from the high slot with Johnson in front of the net and Petr Mrazek pulled for an extra attacker.
Philipp Kurashev had a goal and two assists, and Johnson had two assists for the Blackhawks (12-26-4), who have won four of their past five games. Mrazek made 30 saves.
"It feels really good," Jones said. "You know, we didn't start the way we wanted to in this game, and after the second [period] we came in here and it was all positive talk and what we needed to do and tie it up and get back in the game. And we did that.
"It's always good when the [defensemen] get involved and help the forwards out putting the puck in the net. We haven't done it enough this year, so it's nice to kind of start getting that going for us in the second half."

BUF@CHI: Jones nets 2nd of game in overtime

Victor Olofsson, Tage Thompson and Peyton Krebs scored, and Craig Anderson made 22 saves for the Sabres (21-19-3), who lost 4-1 to the Florida Panthers on Monday.
"Obviously that one stinks," Buffalo forward Tyson Jost said. "We'll go over it and figure out what needs to be better. I thought we did a lot of good things. We just [got] a little bit away from our game. That one stinks, for sure.
"I think we had more jump today than we did yesterday. Yesterday, we were a little bit flat. We were creating stuff. We were fine. Just a couple little lulls there."

BUF@CHI: Murphy gives Blackhawks lead in 1st period

Connor Murphy gave Chicago a 1-0 lead at 8:41 of the first period when he took a pass from Kurashev in the slot and scored on a wrist shot.
Olofsson tied it 1-1 at 12:15 on a rebound at the top of the crease.
Thompson gave the Sabres a 2-1 lead with seven seconds left in the first. Jeff Skinner wheeled around the right face-off circle and fed Thompson at the edge of the crease, where he tucked it past Mrazek.
Krebs scored on a short-handed breakaway at 6:21 of the second period to give Buffalo a 3-1 lead. Krebs got the puck after Max Domi failed to secure it at the right point and scored on a forehand-to-backhand deke.
"Krebs had great jump," Buffalo coach Don Granato said. "Stepping back for a couple games, he comes back into the lineup and had great jump. It's very nice to see him score. He had a breakaway much like that a week or two ago. He got in the same situation, adjusted what he did and made it happen. Nice to see that part."

Kurashev cut it to 3-2 at 1:34 of the third when he tipped in Jones' shot from the right point.
Jones' tying goal was awarded after video review determined there was no goalie interference from Johnson.
"His elbow goes right in my glove," Anderson said. "It doesn't allow me to make the save, a wrist shot from the point … all day long. On the replay, from what I'm seeing, obviously I don't make the calls, but his left foot's in the crease, his elbow goes into my glove, not allowing my glove to make the save. But you don't get the calls.
"You've got to battle through it and find a way to win. We just weren't able to do that."

BUF@CHI: Jones fires home game-tying goal late in 3rd

Mrazek was pleased with his response after he was pulled in the first period Saturday, when he gave up four goals on five shots in an 8-5 loss to the Seattle Kraken. Chicago finished 4-3-0 on a seven-game homestand.
"Yeah, last game was rough," Mrazek said. "We've moved on. The third period was big on our side, and we put the puck on the net and had the screen there, tips, and so those are the greasy goals that we need to score.
"We showed the character of the team and how we can play together. We knew we would talk about it after the second period, what to do in the third, go harder to the net because we didn't have many opportunities in the first two periods. But we showed that we can do it."
NOTES: Jones scored the 10th overtime goal of his career and became the third defenseman in NHL history with a double-digit total, joining Brent Burns (16) and Scott Niedermayer (13). … Chicago placed goalie Alex Stalock in concussion protocol earlier Tuesday and recalled Jaxson Stauber from Rockford of the American Hockey League to serve as Mrazek's backup. … Thompson became the fourth player in Sabres history with 16 goals through his first 20 road games in a season, joining Pat LaFontaine in 1991-92, Gilbert Perreault in 1977-78 and Thomas Vanek in 2008-09. Thompson has 32 goals in 43 games after scoring 38 in 78 last season.
