Tocchet missed the Coyotes' 5-2 win against the Calgary Flames on Monday to attend his mother's funeral.
Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson will be a game-time decision because of an undisclosed injury. Ekman-Larsson did not participate in the morning skate but will take warmups.
Center Dylan Strome will play after he was recalled from Tucson of the American Hockey League on Tuesday. Strome, the No. 3 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, has one goal in 11 games with Arizona this season.
Goalie Antti Raanta will start for the Coyotes, who are 11-5-1 in their past 17 games.
Chad Johnson will start in goal for the Sabres.
