ZURICH (CP) - Goaltenders David Aebischer of the Colorado Avalanche and Martin Gerber of the Carolina Hurricanes and defenceman Mark Streit of the Montreal Canadiens are the only NHL players named to Switzerland's Olympic hockey roster.
Former NHL forward Paul DiPietro, a Stanley Cup champion in 1993 with the Canadiens, also is on the roster.
DiPietro plays for the Swiss club team EV Zug. He last played in the NHL in 1997 with the Los Angeles Kings. The 35-year-old centre was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., but acquired a Swiss passport in time for the 2005 world championship. Switzerland plays Canada on Feb. 18 in Turin.
At the 2002 Winter Games, Switzerland tied France 3-3, lost 6-2 to Ukraine and defeated Belarus 2-1. In the game for 11th place, Switzerland defeated Austria 4-1.
There are 14 players from that team on the 2006 squad coached by Winnipeg native Ralph Krueger.
The Swiss open against Finland on Feb. 15.
